All I know if they do that the rugby would be really horrible... I mean Western Cape and Northern Cape teams? Best team is Stormers and they suck... :P Would be like Stormers vs South Africa... ;)
 
Durban is the busiest container port in Africa iirc... and very possibly the busiest harbour in Africa...
 
It just doesn't make sense IMO. Imagine if Gauteng decided to form an independant state.

Um, Iceland's economy pretty much collapsed this year and none of those countries' economies are similar to SA's. For example, Iceland is a massive exporter which is what kept Iceland's economy afloat during booming times - what would the Western Cape export? Wine?

That could actually work. Gauteng is aiming to be the economic hub of entire Africa. I could actually see that happening easier than WC being financiallt independent.

Well we can sell pictures of the Mountain :P Some of the sand from the beaches, some Fynbos, also Tourism would be good... We will charge Non-Western-Cape-South-Africans to have holidays here.. Build a massive wall around Western Cape and Nothern Cape... We can also try and get Namibia to join us and then... Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie could be our President ;) or adopt all of us and give everyone some money...

NC/WC - Diamonds, Fish, Farming, Tourism

And it would all collapse because the financial centre is 1000km's away and there would be no proper way to raise capital. It would be bleedin' complicated. Why argue with fools dude?
 
Exporting wine and fruit would be revenue sources. Tourism is another (probably the most lucrative). Shipbuilding could become another - with one of the world's largest drydocks, ship repairs yet another. Oil refining, food, chemical, and fertilizer processing, leather and plastic goods, etc. The clothing industry could be revived and become massive. Cape Town also exports diamonds.

No reason why we couldn't be financially self-sufficient.

Banking was Icelands biggest industry, they are now up **** cree kwithout a paddle. They've left lot of people/organisations/local councils/businesses here in the UK in big pooh pooh. I think mybe you should not compare an Independent Cape to Iceland.....
 
please become independant then we wont have to deal with lazy capetonians :D

Bollocks! IF there were backers who wanted it to be like that. then it would be a success in the medium term. Hell - even Montenegro is financially self-sufficient (sort of) and it's barely the size of a large F1 course.

It appears that you and the bottle of sauce have not parted company in some time though. Tell you what, lets discuss this once you're a little more sober (or at least had your keyboard fixed :p ). TheREV gave a good answer to the question.

The argument that WC is economically lucrative is a double-edged sword though - being lucrative means SA would lose that revenue stream - not going to happen...
