Hey guys,

I'm studying electronic and computer engineering at the NWU-PUK. We had C++ this semester, which was great, but next semester we will only be focusing on electronic device programming etc using Assembly and C (C++ actually but not the object-orientated part).

I would really like to also learn more about IT programming. So I asked around and it seems I might actually take an additional Java or C# course next semester. My schedule is already pretty full, but I believe an extra programming course would fit (even if I cannot attend all the classes).

Anyway, I'm not sure which to choose if I'd go through with it, C# or Java. I did request info about both subjects, but I'm sure some of you could point me in a direction. So far I'm thinking C#.

The reasons for me wanting to take another IT course are that I really enjoy it and I want to be able to realize ideas I might have in the future. Guess it might also be something extra to put on my CV. :)

Thanks

Agree on the C# part. You can stick with an IDE you already know(Assuming you used Visual Studio) and it is very quick to develop on.

I just looked at code from both languages. They both remind me of C in some ways. The C# keywords are mostly the same as the keywords used in C++.

I also saw that the "C# versus Java" discussions are pretty popular.

@roguemat thanks for the link.

Java has the benefit of being the language of choice amongst mobile devices, which is useful if you take an interested in programing your android phone etc...

It really doesn't matter which you choose they so similar. Once you know one, you can change to the other with minimal effort.

Whats the end goal in taking this course? Do you just want to learn another language? Create cool apps for windows? Create cool apps for windows/linux/phones?

I love C# :) but java is my choice for most things :)
