Calabash 2025

Lets hope Offspring doesnt wait another 20 years to come to South Africa, it really seemed as if they enjoyed the crowd as well

Yeah they did mention in the set they would be back (Noodle & Dexter did appear to enjoy themelves a lot) so lets hope its in the next few years.

The Offspring were basically solely responsible for changing the trajectory of my music taste when I was younger. I heard "Gone Away" on 5FM when that album came out and was completely hooked.

I didn't get tickets to watch though, I just really can't handle big crowds like that anymore. If it wasn't such a cluster to get to and from the stadium I may have reconsidered.

seeing that line up all I could think is that is just oo much 4 on the floor drums for me to handle. for the drive home I put tool on because I felt like all I have heard was the same 3/4 drum beat for the past few hours.

I do not mean I did not enjoy it, its just something I have learned to pick up on a bit more in recent times.

I think the only song played live that was not the same Base drum line was a few of the Greenday songs where they go into a 4/4 time to show "marching" like in Minority, Warning, 21 gun and holiday, and even in those most of the song is 3/4 time save for those small sections.
but we are here to talk about the fuin we had at the live show not about the music theory of pop punk and how the 3/4 beat forms the basis of 99% of the songs and the simple D,A and G cords are basically all that is used. punk musicians are more about lyrics than music anyway. Happy music, thought provoking lyrics to get people thinking in the right direction.

This is also partially why i opted for the stadium lounge , the arrival and exit is way easier , and the food really was good ( oh , and then the drinks  )

Google says:
The Hall of Fame Lounge ticket for the Calabash music festival in Johannesburg costs R5,744.25. This ticket includes: Exclusive viewing, Buffet meals, Premium bar service, and Parking.

Pricey but not terrible, especially if you take full advantage of the food and drinks.
Concert prices in the US are getting ludicrous with their AI surge pricing, that would nearly be the price of a general admission ticket to some concerts.

I’m much the same, hence the hospitality option

That if I recall was last years price, this one was a bit more, but still for me, the value is there

It was my son's first big concert so I wanted to make it special and judging by his reaction it was well worth it. I had t-shirts made and made sure we stayed well hydrated.

They should really not have concerts in January before pay day :)

The good - A great experience overall. Awesome vibe and no aggressive idiots that I saw.
Offspring was awesome. Definitely the highlight of the concert for me.
Fokof was great although I would have enjoyed it more if I knew more of their songs. Sang along like a hooligan to Dagdronk and Fokofpolisiekar.
Green Day started off great but felt a bit tedious after a while. Enjoyed their hits but emo Billy got a bit much closer to the end.
Security was much better than it was with Guns n Roses. Visible policing seems to have worked.
Drinks jugs. Awesome idea.
Park & ride. We went from East Rand Mall and the vibe in the bus was great with people randomly singing fokof, fokof polisiekar.

The bad - Queues everywhere. Drinks/food/merch. I know there is nothing you can do about it but for the first time in my life the queue for the mens bathroom was just as long as the one for the ladies.
Drinks prices are outrageous. R60 for a 500ml beer/sletsappie
The walking. Again, nothing you can do about it but according to Samsung health I walked about 15km yesterday. I'm feeling it today.
We are so spoilt as South African when it comes to drinks and food prices. Everywhere else in the world you pay double at such events. And the queues are double as long as here.

Who went to the JHB show? Honest opinions?
Loved it. Went with my 11 son, big Green Day fan.
FPK 5/10 lots of energy, but lets be honest, their music is no where near the quality of the other bands.
Offspring:9/10 amazing, what a band. Would have liked more, they were the highlight.
Green Day: 7.5/10. First hour was amazing, fizzled out from there. Still great to have seen them.

Sounds like you JHB guys had a good time. Looking forward to the CPT show on Thursday.
Made a Deezer playlist with all the setlists to familiarize again with some oldies.

FML, this was my biggest fear, I guess it's better than Rugby 7's where it was only Castle Lite cat piss and Flying Fish which is not even a beer ffs! We literally sobered up at the 7's, couldn't continue drinking that vile crap.

So this coming Thursday it's a choice between maize heavy heartburn Lager and Zamalek :cautious:

We had castle light, flying fish, some kind of brutal fruit and gin & dry lemon in a can.

My daughter just broke green day for me

Even not sped up, he sounds like Phineas

Unfortunately not however, there was an area in the hospitality "zone" where there was some of the above mentioned stuff going on
Okay - in that case I think we made the right call getting suite tickets for Robbie Williams, but standing tickets for Offspring/greenday.

I’m also low key excited to experience what FPK is like on such a big stage. Have seen them more times then I can count, but never for a crowd this big… it’s actually strange to imagine them being the opening act

it is surreal, and for me that was the most emotional point of the evening.

considering everything that happenend in my life when I really listened to these bands, and the emotional connection I have to song like the kids arent alright to say that what made me tear up was polisikar being on a stage like that is really saying something

Even me, their music made up a large part of my mid teens, and “comfort” music when dealing with early teen emotional **** like first girl friend crap. Hearing it live really did hit in the feels
