Call prices drop after interconnect rate cut

Me too. I actually can't wait to get off MTN after being with them since 1997. Clearly they favour pre-paid customers and don't want my long term business.

they sure do favour pre-paid, because contract gits give them hell by not paying their bills, disputing itemised items, questioning their service-levels, forcing lower prices ... of course. What did you expect? :D

Great news. ICASA needs to keep the pressure on so that costs drop even further...

Yeah, I thought this would happen. They focus on their prepaid and forget that they have a committed base on contract. I'm porting all my phones out of MTN in 6-9 months... counting the days.

Frankly they can go and Ayoba themselves all day long until they get blisters.

They need to increase free minutes and decrease the cost of out of contract minutes.... RETROSPECTIVELY !

I just have to add that the cost of prepaid actually makes the bulk of the service providers profit, prepaid actually keeps them afloat, its something insane like 80% of the profit. So it does make sense that they cut the prices first, its only fair.

MTN also announced on Friday that it has cut the call pricing of its One Rate PayAsYouGo service. The price for calls to all networks is now less than 3c per second. “This new price reduction makes this the lowest per second call rate during peak times in South Africa,” MTN said in a press statement
I love how they quote price/second to try and make it seem less. That's still R1.80 per minute, which is a markup of 100%! And what about the prices of on-net calls being charged at the same price as off-net calls? And the prices that contract subscribers pay?

So can we expent the price of 2GB data bundle to come down from R 389 to R 289 now?

Don't count on it. They are giving us 7.2mbps connection speeds now so thats the latest excuse for the prices Im sure.

Vox Telepreneur clients have been paying R1.05 per minute instead of the usual R1.49 per minute from 1 December in anticipation of the interconnect price cuts.

FAIL! The price is R1.09 per minute and it was from 26th December. Already had that fight with Vox, and if Vox keeps up this business of saying one thing and doing another there will be $h1t hitting the fan. They promised me 20c per minute rebate on incoming faxes... and with over 1000 minutes of faxes a month, I get about R20 bucks rebate.

I am waiting to see what Virgin Mobile does.

They will phuq it up! I promise! I am on a contract with them, and the overall call costs are higher for me than it was when I was on prepaid. There is NO 1000 free SMS, and it's flat rate all day, except after first 5 calls not minutes, then it drops to a very slightly lower flat rate. Oh, and I have to keep reconnecting my phone to the network. Only with Virgin Simcards. Stay away from VIRGIN!!! The best part is, if I don't get an answer on a number I dial, I still pay for 1 minute. No per second billing on contracts. And you pay for dialing, the other end doesn't even have to answer!

I started on Vodacom... their service got worse and worse every year, so I switched to Virgin. I have also had a Cell C sim card. I think they all are as crappy as the last!
