So I noticed that Cellc has adjusted the in bundle call rate from R1.80 per minute to R0.79 per minute.

When did that happen.

I saw it in the latest deals pamphlet where they mentioned something about paying the lowest call rate of only 79c per minute on all contracts. So I was ready to take them to the ASA because I had a epic contract since the start and the call rate was always R1.80 per minute but when I tested it I saw they changed it and is now billing in bundle rate of 79c per minute.

Pretty cool because that means the epic contracts offer so much more value for money when used for calls.

Hi cavedog

Thank you for posting to us.

We would like to maintain that the call rate is R1.89 out of bundle.

We would like to go back & confirm the call rate as mentioned by you. Please wait for feedback.

I was furious and about to complain to the ASA about this statement in the booklet because I know Epic contract has a very high in and out of bundle rate. So I tested again and saw they changed it to 79c per minute in bundle rate which is not bad at all.

Here is a screenshot of it as it appears in the booklet and note that they basically only advertise Epic contracts in the booklet.

Hi All

SO I take it that the following still applies to EPIC contracts
1) In bundle rate is what? I dont know this. - I found it R1.89
2) OOB rate per minute is R1.89
3) Data bundles much be bought over and above the EPIC contract cost
4) OOB data per MB is 99c

Wow these contracts are so expensive its scary, do they offer the older contracts still?

This means that these are extremely expensive consumers beware.

So, I'm confused now. What is the in bundle call rate rate for the Epic contracts. Was at their store today and the salesman explained that you calculate the rate using a weird formula n which you divide the airtime you get by the amount it costs on a sim only contract.

Why can't they just publish the in bundle rates like everyone else?

@Cell_C , please can confirm the in bundle rates.

I found the above in the T&C part of their contract.

What I have also found is below:
1) The old contracts are available but very expensive a Straight Up 100 contract with a Samsung s6 is around R520 per month and the handset subsidy is around R410 which is just crazy.
2) Straight Up and Epic contracts also have very small data components and you need to bolt on a data package per month, these packages are much more expensive than a data sim. Its R85 for 500mb or R149 for 1gb extra.

So if you look at a Straight Up contract in which you get R1.05pm call costs your total cost of ownership is: R520 + R85 = R605 VS a Epic contract which is R449 for an epic 150.

So for me its not a good time to upgrade. Something has to change.

So, there is still confusion among the Cell C staff as to what is the in - bundle call rate for Epic packages. One confined it to be 1.89 rands!! that is Vodacom territory!!

Looks like Cell is going backwards on their promise of reducing the call rates.
