Calls could become cheaper

On Track

“In as much as we want to carry it out quickly, we have to follow the rule of the law.

“People must still submit documents and make oral representations,” Sekgoela said

Would love to know what their track record for adopting ideas from such submissions is

speaking from experience - mixed depending on which ICASA department it is and what political influences are at play

all sounds good but i would be surprised if even half of these interventions are finalised this year

Would this mean, for example, in context of mobile phones to have MTN as my cellphone contract provider but Vodascum to provide the signal? Cos I have crap signal on MTN, but I get service from them, where Vodacom can't provide service, but their connectivity would be good for me.

As always, this is imminent
and i fear in the very South African sense of the word...something like "just now now imminent"

the reality here is that ICASA can put in the procedures for CPS with relative ease... from my information Telkom's network has been able to handle carrier selection since 2003

but put regulations about procedures in place is very different from regulating pricing. telkom has to offer CPS but the wholesale rate at which it must be offered is not controlled and this will be a far more lengthy process subject to legal delays etc.

...and only limited benefit to contract mobile users.
I want all the benefit I can get, no matter how limited it may be. I've been skrewed enough, and enough is enough. GIMME MY BENEFITS :D

ICASA has zero motivation. If they had any interest to serve the public things would've changed a loong time ago.

They may drop the price of calls but will find some other way to squeeze more money out of the consumers. Nothing comes down in price in ZA that is not cancelled out by something else going up.
