There's a big Dion Wired at the Centurion Lifestyle centre.

Foto Discount is OK, I have used the Irene branch and the Kollonade one before to buy stuff.

It would help if DION Wired sales staff actually knew the products that they sell, especially camera equipment.......

Go to ODP, you will thank us all later. Sales staff there are on the ball, even when the shop is hectically busy.
To make things a lot easier and quicker, go here and see what you are interested in, then either phone the shop or pop around:

I pop around there regularly (I stay about 3km from there), and staff is always friendly and very helpful.

Another vote for ODP although Foto Discount World sometimes has better prices if you know exactly what you want and don't need all the pampering ODP provides.

You may call it pampering and we'll call it "the most incredible service ever" :D

Hedrus and staff have never failed to impress me with their service approach. And the free coffee + cookies don't hurt!

Is there a difference? :p

Yes ODP is an awesome experience but I don't need to pay R200 - R300 extra for the free coffee and cookies when I know exactly what I want and I can get it slightly cheaper from somewhere else (on the rare occasion)

Good etiquette is if you glean your knowledge from say a shop like ODP, then it's only good manners to buy from them and not try and save a couple of Rand buying from somewhere else.

If and only if you actually received said knowledge from a particular shop then I totally agree ... with this whole Google thing nowadays I personally don't see why you need to go to a brick and mortar store to gain any said knowledge? Maybe to confirm your own research yes but simply walking blindly into a shop and accepting what they tell you nowadays borders on stupidity.

After doing my own extensive research I'm more than entitled to shop wherever I find it cheapest ... if this isn't how you operate then sure, trust the half dozen recommendations in this thread and go to ODP and enjoy the experience. Shops like them are few and far between these days!

Sadly the internet is killing off these types of shops.

Interestingly, ODP was a full-blown web shop not so long ago, so Hedrus must have felt there was a need for direct contact or having stock on hand for the customer to play with. He and Norma would have thought it through before committing to the brick and mortar establishment.
