Can anyone identify this spider?

Eh, correct name is pyrethroid. Saying "poison" is like saying grass is food. Their mechanism of action is to excite neurons to the point that it induces complete paralysis of the nervous system leading to death shortly afterwards. These ones are specifically designed for hard to kill insects like cockroaches and ants but not meant for cockroaches and ants exclusively and works a lot faster on other insects as a result. Again obviously haven't seen how insects die in nature and even what they do to each other. ;)

My preferred method is sweep down with a broom, then hit it repeatedly until it's in pieces.

Using poisons is not a quick death for spiders, though it varies by species. Rather squish them with a brick. I have seen how hey die in nature, some quicker than others. The only thing that is probably worse than being killed by poison is being used by a mommy wasp as food for their babies :cry:

Just to comfort you, notice that the wasp has chopped off the sac spider's legs...
 
Two weeks ago i woke up with my wife starring at me from the side of the bed, saying to get up very slowly. after doing so i looked back and saw this HUGE rain spider that was above our heads for who knows how long. this was 6am in the morning.

Sadley i had to kill it because it did not want it running into my bed or behind it :-)

This is my second rain spider in my bedroom and about the 5-6 one in total in my house since i moved there 3 years ago.

I get braver and braver every time i see one.

You had to kill it? Aaaargh! Get a glass or a clear tupperware type container - pop it over the spider, then carefully and slowly slip some thick paper or thin cardboard between the container and the glass. Do it slowly so you don't injure the spider. Once in - take the spider and release it outside - preferably somewhere leafy. No need at all to kill any spider - especially not rainspiders! :cry:

Shame. Don't kill them, just ignore them. They won't bother you and they are not dangerous.

I'm trying not to kill them, i once tried this technique you described and i almost sh@t myself when i got close to the spider and it lifted its front feet/teeth? I was trying to be brave and impress my wife, it didnt work so well when i through the container in the air and quickly ducked away.
