Changes to Showmax

Dear valued customer,

We’re writing to inform you of an important update regarding Showmax.

Following a comprehensive review, the Showmax Board has taken the decision to discontinue the Showmax service in the near future.

This decision reflects our focus on strengthening our overall digital offering and ensuring long-term sustainability in an increasingly competitive streaming environment.

Importantly, at the moment there will be no interruption to your current service. You can continue streaming as usual, and no action is required from you at this time.

We understand that this news may raise questions. Showmax subscribers are a priority for us, and we are working on plans to ensure clear communication and a smooth transition when the time comes. We will share further details well in advance, including timelines and any future steps, should they be required.

Streaming remains central to our strategy. We will continue to invest in premium content, technology innovation and partnerships to deliver the best possible entertainment experience to our customers.

Thank you for your continued support.

King regards,
MultiChoice Team

Shutting down SA based companies in favour of international ones?

There goes our only access to many shows. Like Star Trek. I guess its the high seas for us.
May move to another platform like the Multiploos one. Plus it's only 1 season of SNW and Starfleet Academy, which I guess I better watch before it's gone.

Sounds like a plan to expand DStv to include something similar, on the streaming side anyway, but more akin to their business model.

Wow, may we live in interesting times..

Canal+ axes Showmax

MultiChoice has announced that it will shut down Showmax, ending the streaming platform that was once positioned as the centrepiece of its growth strategy in Africa.

The Showmax board made the decision following a comprehensive review of the company's streaming activities, MultiChoice said in a statement.

Yip, just received the email.

With KyKNet's future in doubt on DStv, access to archived Afrikaans shows on Showmax would have been at least a saviour, but this will soon be no more.

Just got the email as well, and I don't subscribe, so looks like it's being sent to all with DStv.

That sentence certainly seems to show more of a combining of efforts than a destruction of one of them. But who knows

I like that it has some HBO series and movies and other series I suppose they weren't making any money

I just got an email from them saying its going to be discontinued in the near future

Yeah I also got that, they must have spent so much money on those local made shows and where are they going to put them?
