So a few months back I went through some turmoil in my career and sadly needed to sell my Canon 7D which I bought brand new about 6 years back.

I kept my lenses though (17-55 2.8 and 70-200 2.8) , as I figured when I'm back on track I'd like to get the new body.

I'm not track but I do want a camera. Do you think a 550D (or so) is better then a 50D that is almost 9 years old?

Technology improved to such an extent? Or will the 50D still be ok? It'll be temporary as well

PS What is the going price?

Thanks

I would choose the 550D over the 50D for image quality, the 550D was often referred to as the mini 7D online.

You can't stretch to 60D or 600D? I thing the ergonomics with the swivelling screen are much better.

60D is not that bad a price and I am loving mine. Had the 40D before. Still an awesome camera. Play with them. The shop will let you. The feel of a camera makes a huge difference to me.

THanks guys.

The 50D I saw was R4,000 - and it was a similar size/feel to the 7D. I'll check what else I can find

The 7D is give or take the replacement for the 50D, it was an option for me too at one stage. It's old but still quite capable.
