The Integrated Speedlite transmitter also provides in-camera control of multiple EX flash units.

Fantastic, but how does it work?

Is it RF or Infrared?

Unless there is something that you really need, this camera makes little sense for the premium over the 550D :/

I suspect the same way as the 7D - the popup fires transmitting the data to the remote flashes. The popup can be excluded from the flash series or included.

Frankly that's always been the case.

Wouldn't there be a delay in the firing of the remotes then?

bwana, would you consider buying one, or what is a good alternative?

I had considered the XXD range not too long ago but the 7D came out and I figured that was probably about as low as I wanted to go. The XXDs also never offered that much more than the XXXDs, at least not enough to justify the difference in price in my eyes.

That said the 60D does have some nice features that the 550D is lacking. The new rear screen, the smaller LCD on the top, bigger and brighter viewfinder, the integrated Speedlite transmitter, etc.

koffiejunkie posted a link to a nice comparison chart - http://www.digitalrev.com/en/canon-eos-60d-vs-550d-vs-7d-c-getting-more-bangs-for-bucks-6509-article

I gotta admit ... I want that LCD screen on top ;)

And swivel screen is fantastic too.

I guess we'll need to see the pricing, as I doubt I'd pay R3,000.00 premium for that. R1,500.00 perhaps ...

I think Canon made a smart move more clearly distinguishing their lines. Sure a lot of 50D owners are moaning but I wonder how many of them would really do an incremental upgrade anyway. Looking back I can't think that many 40D users got rid of that body in favour of the 50D. A two generation upgrade makes more sense and a vertical leap to the 7D makes a whole lot more sense.

I went from the 400D to the 1D because the XXD range didn't offer much in terms of what I needed and the 7D wasn't available.

I've found the top screen to be the least useful of all the differences between the xxxD and xxD ranges. I can't read it without specs, and my camera is often on a monopod or tripod, where that screen is inaccessible for quick changes. I've set my 40d to use the main screen for the info.

There's not really much difference in the ergonomics of the xxD range and the 7d???

[and there is a pretty big difference in the ergonomics of the xxxD and xxD ranges]

I wasn't interested in the ergonomics but the AF, remote flash, and the frame rate (to name a few). What I really needed was another 1D but my budget wouldn't stretch to that and a 300mm f/2.8 so the 7D had to do.

In fact the 400D with a grip is more comfortable than the 7D with a grip. (Neither of which come close to the 1D :D)

I'm one of the few who did go from 40D to 50D because of circumstances beyond my control. If those circumstances presented themselves again, I might have considered waiting for the 60D, but now I wont. 7D is where it's at...

So if you lost your 50D, and the insurance only covered replacing it with a 60D, and you didnt have the funds to upgrade to the 7D you'd . . . . ?

Save and buy a D700 :) Seriously, I waited 5 months until I had the funds to replace the 40D - I can do it again.

You waited because you hadn't insured your 50D - given that you had the cash in hand you'd still wait?

Just curious : don't insurance give you the same or similar model? :/

I'd guess the true replacement of the 50D would be the 7D
