Canon SA has not only confirmed the dates for this year’s highly anticipated Canon SA Expo, but has also announced a few very exciting additions to the 2013 event.

The expo will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre from the 29th of November to the 1st of December and will be open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Entrance is as always, free of charge.

The company is really excited about this year’s event, which will once again be a showcase of Canon’s wide range of consumer imaging and bigger business solutions. Visitors to the event will have unequalled opportunity to interact with Canon experts and products, including being amongst the first to see and touch some of the company’s latest technologies. Aside from perusing and experiencing Canon equipment, visitors will also be able to purchase products at discounted prices. The company will announce specials on the dedicated Canon SA Expo website closer to the event.

The Expo will include inspiring speaker sessions by some of the country’s foremost photographers, with two speaker sessions running simultaneously throughout the day from Friday to Sunday. For the first time Canon will also introduce interactive displays which will showcase the abilities of select products. “We are gearing up for our biggest and best Canon SA Expo yet, with the widest range of products on active display. Visitors can expect to be blown away by the show, our products and our guest speakers this year.”

Another new innovation of this year’s Expo is the introduction of live training sessions hosted by industry experts. These sessions will be presented daily and can accommodate up to 20 people at a time. Visitors will also be encouraged to ask any related questions they might have with regards to utilising their photographic equipment. Attendees interested in these training sessions are advised to bring along their own equipment.

“With each year that we have hosted the expo, it has grown in stature to become one of the most-anticipated and well-attended of its kind,” says the company’s Marketing Manager, Michelle Janse van Vuuren.

According to Janse van Vuuren, there will once again be a photographic competition, which will run in tandem to the event. Aspiring photographers will be invited to enter one or more of the competition categories for a chance of winning fantastic prizes.

The top entries in the competition will also be profiled in a dedicated gallery at the Expo, providing excellent exposure for emerging photographers. The themes and mechanics for entry to the competition will be announced shortly.

Canon SA calls for entries to 2013 Photography Competition

Canon photographers stand a chance to win a share of R150 000 worth of prizes. They will also have the opportunity to showcase their photographs at the 2013 Canon SA Expo by entering Canon’s third-annual Photography Competition.

The company is now calling for entries to the competition, which is open to all Canon photographers – and in fact anyone who is happiest behind the lens of a Canon camera – within the borders of South Africa. Photographers can enter one or more of the four categories by submitting their photos, showing creative interpretation of the themes, by the 1st of November 2013.

The themes for this year are; Let the Light In, Better in Black and White, Save Our Planet, and The Un-posed Portrait.

“We are looking for innovative and creative interpretation of these themes, with minimal digital manipulation, so we invite entrants to let their creative juices flow.

“The best photographs are those which capture the emotion and feeling of the moment and tell a story. You do not have to be a pro to plan, and be at the right place at the right time. It is always exciting to see how entrants perceive the themes and translate their perceptions into a tangible, ‘talking’ picture,” says Canon SA’s Marketing Manager, Michelle van Vuuren.

There will be one winner in each of the four categories, with each winner taking home a stunning Canon EOS 6D including an EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens kit. A panel of industry experts will determine the top 10 entries in each category. The ultimate winners will be determined by public votes received from the top 10 entries displayed on the Canon SA Expo and Photo Competition Facebook pages, on www.csaexpo.co.za and in the gallery at the Canon Expo.

Entries must be submitted in electronic JPEG format, not exceeding 2MB, via email. There are four email addresses correlating to the various themes. Entrants must submit their entries to the email address appropriate to the category or categories they are entering namely; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected], and [email protected].

There is also a stunning Canon EOS M including an EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and a Speedlite 90EX up for grabs in the Voter Competition. Only one entry per category is allowed but there is no limit on the number of categories you can enter. The public can vote for their favourites on the Canon Expo website (www.csaexpo.co.za) from 10 November 2013 or when they visit the gallery at the Canon Expo which takes place from the 29th of November to the 1st of December 2013 at the Sandton Convention Centre. Voting closes on 1 December 2013.

The winners of the Photography and Voter Competitions will be announced on or after 15 January 2014. Visit www.csaexpo.co.za for rules and more information.
