I ran a AVG on a computer and now afterwards I can't open the C: drive. If I doubleclick on it, it only gives me the options, like when you right-click and select 'open with'.

How do I fix this.

Is there like a autorun.inf in the root of c drive?

No there isn't now one but there could have been one before I ran AVG 8 earlier today. The problem is I also ran CCleaner's registry checker and deleted a bunch of reg entries that the program identified as "problems". Only after this did this problem started. The program though does cater for you to make backup copies of those entries. However, even after I reinstalled those entries the problem is still there.

I think gdiza is correct. You had a worm. That worm put an autorun.inf file in the root directory (causing a double-click to run some predetermined .exe file somewhere). When you did the scan, AVG probably killed the .exe file but left the autorun.exe. As a result, it doesn't know what to do. You need to use the Address Bar in Explorer to navigate to the route directory, then enable display of hidden files, then you should see the autorun.inf. Delete it.

Of course, this could all be wrong :p

Click open with "search for application"
Open it with explorer.exe which would be in your windows directory.

Or just typr C:\ in run and hit enter. Delete any autorun files or create a new one

Can't find any hidden autorun files.

click start -> Run -> type in CMD (black dos box will popup)

type in cd\ (to goto root of C: )
type in attrib autorun.inf -r -a -s -h
then simply delete the autorun.inf

type in del autorun.inf

That will remove the file, and after a restart you can access the C Drive again.
But if its a worm, the drive will get infected again.

if you want to access the drive right away, goto my computer. then simply type in the address bar C: (and press enter)

had the same problem with these cccleaner rubbish programs

reload your system because you have no idea what this delete and how to fix it nor did i
a repair does not work either

do not use anything but an anti virus for your system
use firefox so you dont get spyware and stop using these programs to fix registry's

Are you showing hidden files? In explorer, go to Tools -> Folder Options. Click View tab and make sure "show hidden files and folders" is checked and "hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. Then apply and ok.

THEN!!!

Repeat this process IMMEDIATELY. If the changes you made before are still in place, then proceed to check for the autorun.inf
If the changes have not stuck, then you need to fix a few registry keys, which the worm that is infecting your PC changed.

Geez... what the hell is wrong with me? i meant "autorun.inf", not "autorun.exe" and "root" not "route"

My bad...

there is a file on the c that avg dont like and this will cause a no fly zone..
easy fix is disable the avg service and the avg watchdog service and you can open it,after the problem is fixed(what avg sees as a threat), just enable all avg services again

I've seen that somewhere before. It has to do with two things:
1- A bug/virus/worm. Something Linux users don't often see (as common as a linux system crashing as often as Windows)
2- It's not called Windows for nothing and it was developed by Microsoft. Just reinstall Windows or fix your problem if you can find it, or if that fails, get Linux
:D

This virus/worm is very common ...
The following normally sorts it out

1. Run true sword 4 demo
2. Run smitfraud
3. Modify the registry to fix the problem where u cant view hidden files and folders

it is windows fault ppl download registry cleaners that mess up the OS?

you do have a point though

microsoft should block these programs

It's almost certainly an Autorun.inf problem. Make sure you can actually see any hidden files and folders in explorer. If not, you'll need RRT
to fix your registry.
