Cape News

And the rest of SA is still waiting for similar reports from the rest of the towns of the country. Where are they ?

Zuma rules the rest of the country, surely you don’t expect changes anywhere else except in the WC?

~R900,000 rand a year for shark spotting. I wonder how big the team is?

For a city (or province) that has the highest incident of Great White attacks in the world, a budget of that size is a drop in the ocean.

Tee hee, I amuse myself.

I'm actually quite suprised. Thought it would be bigger.... Since Cape Town's sharks are protected, we can't use nets or any other cheap preventive method. So the only way is to employ shark spotters to give keep track of shrak movements and warn the beaches of any danger. This includes helicopters and qualified people, so I would have thought that their budget should be bigger. Anyhow, I'm really glad they are investing in this. I had a friend who was attacked by a Great White a few years ago :(
I didn't know they used helicopters. That's news.
Since spotting just involves a guy with a pair of binoculars, I wouldn't have thought the salary was much.

We were talking about the Western Cape weren't we.

Do you also sit when you pee?

I don't think the sharks give a flying fsck if they've crossed provincial boundaries. You do realise that up until 1994 shark attacks occurring in that area were regarded as the same province, as such the figures reflect both?

Are you sexist now as well.
We are talking about shark spotting and the budget for them. You made a claim about shark incidents, and then gave a backing link which included the E. Cape and beyond. I'll wait until you can substantiate the claim.

I think you need to cool down a bit - how about a dip? :p

Who cares about the link? There are numerous shark attacks in the Western Cape and that's common knowledge (at least for any local here). It doesn't matter if we're number one, two, or 54. What matters is what steps the government takes in preventing this attacks. So I applaud the municipality on their initiative. If they had this a few years ago, maybe my friend wouldn't have been attacked :(

So guys, take a chill pill and stop nit picking at irrelevant issues.
