Cape Party Q&A

capeparty1: Firstly, thanks for opening this discussion and offering some answers.

I think previous threads tended to become emotional, as talk of secession generally does, however it is an important topic nonetheless, especially for us here in the Cape. I really hope that ppl outside of the Western Cape can learn to appreciate the sincerity and determination of this independence Movement.

Where would you say the proposed borders of an Independent Cape would be?

I will restate my questions from the other threads....

1) What SPECIFIC geographical area are the Cape Party lobbying to get independence for, and what is their expected time frame for this independence?

2) What concrete plans does the Cape Party have to govern the area should they get independence, and what plans do they have to "correct" the wrongs of the ANC?

Do citizens of the "independent Cape" have to get new ID books, Passports and drivers licenses? What's the relationship with the rest of SA?
The Western Cape is more dependent on SA than most would think. How could it thrive if it had to go independent?

It's like cutting off your hand and expecting it to thrive on it's own. It won't happen - no matter how hard you try.

its a stupid idea.

but please put up your manifesto.

question 2.

what is the average age of your members ?

Do any of them hold professional positions, in business ?

I am not currently living in the Cape. Can I be invited to the party?

I can answer that one for you. I currently reside in the U.K. and have had assurances I would be welcome to move to the Cape as long as I had something to contribute, which is fair enough. So I guess the answer to your question is yes...

Is the cape party is some kind of elitist party?
If i'm earning less than 250k a year do I qualify as a member? :D

I almost fell off my chair (with laughter) reading that part.
What nerve they got to decide who can move there and on what grounds they can do so on. They cannot just kidnap all the people in the cape on the day of the secession or stop those trying to enter! Then they'd be asking for trouble. I mean there's only like 200 of them at the moment - they'd be told to go to bed by the adults if they ever try that.

Stay off the drugs then.... :D

Let's for one minute assume the Cape becomes independent, it would be like any other country deciding who comes in and who doesn't it's called immigration control. Try getting a visa to get into U.K or Aus..... you need to show that you are able to contribute to their economy before they even think about letting you in. Same as the Yanks....

Nothing wrong with that...

As to kidnapping the people of the Cape on the day of secession.... You say we are living in Cuckoo land, more like you are. What makes you think secession will be achieved in one day? I'm sure there will be a transitional period (Just like S.A.)

200 supporters of the Cape Party? Um I think not, in the election there was 2500 votes (approx) and they used the election to create a higher profile for themselves. It's worked to an extent don't you think? We are after all talking about it here.

And as for your comments on age.....

The 200 was used for effect - I actually was thinking of putting 100K, but I see I had greatky overestimated their significance.

Ok let's for one moment start to take them seriously. Remember some accusation (by the DA I think) that the ANC (or one of their goons) is trying to encourage a mass migration of (black) people into the western cape to win the election next round? What's the CP gonna do about that?

Thanks to those of you who have taken the time to ask questions.

Our argument for secession is currently framed by section 235 (but is not limited to it) of the South African constitution. 52 contiguous municipalities (comprising the Western Cape, most of the Northern Cape and six municipalities in the Eastern Cape) make up the Cape Republic of Good Hope. These municipalities are culturally and linguistically distinct, share a common history, were seperate and self-governing before 1910, are shaped by a 350 year old society and a history going back thousands of years.

We believe that South Africa is a colonial construct which was formed to pacify a troublesome colony, with vast gold and mineral deposits. As Cecil Rhodes said "You cannot govern South Africa by tramping on the dutch". In order to pacify the colony the British ignored the pleas of the black african lobby groups and excluded them from representation in the Union. South Africa's sad history was entrenched from that day.

The Cape's liberal tradition had some recognition in the Union though, but these were mostly wittled away and by 1953 the Union agreement was shattered by the NP's racist laws which denied coloured people the vote entrenched in the Union agreements. The Cape Party belives that we should have left the Union in 1953.

This is not a question. Admin please take note.

capeparty1: What are the immigration requirements for SA citizens outside the Cape after secession?
