INDEPENDENDENT NEWSPAPERS

Protesters burnt tyres and blockaded the N2 near Khayelitsha on Saturday, a Cape Town traffic spokeswoman said.

“There is a protest march on the N2. There were reports of stone throwing and burning of tyres,” said Chief Inspector Merle Lourens.

The protest started after 3am.

She said the centre lane of the N2 going towards Cape Town was closed as a result of the illegal protest. Protesters had dug a hole on the highway and the city had dispatched repairmen to fix it, said Lourens.

The reason for the protest was unknown
but police were monitoring. - Sapa

DA under attack...... again !!!!

RE. Protesters burnt tyres and blockaded the N2

They aren't protesters

They're simple f***ing rioters and should be treated as such.

The Black Sash protested plenty but never burnt a single tyre or stoned a single car

The anc is destabilizing the wc. They desperately want to continue the looting that ensued before.

I doubt its the DA as all the protesting has been in ANC strongholds - Lowyrs Pass (Sun City); Botriver; etc. I believe its due to the current ANC in fighting.

Also if these where aimed at the DA then this daily protest action on the N2 (4th one in two weeks on this stretch) would happen closer to Somerset West. These protestors are causing more trouble for their own as Taxis and others leaving Khayaletsia make use of this stretch of rode.

Also what is weird is it always starts at 3am

That might be their goal but the ANC has lost the WC long time ago. I'm an active member of my local DA and we where not suprise but the amount of disgruntled ANC supporters who are feed up with their Western Cape branch. Many are joining the DA as a result.

Keep in mind the ANC in Western Cape is so disorganized that they could not even organise a pissup in a sheeben - even the ANC top brass admits they lost the province in the previous elections due to this.

To support your statement... The Prez was meant to give the main speech at a Govt sponsored Youth Rally in PE today. He chickened out and sent his lackey instead.

Disgruntled Silvertown residents who were not informed about a Youth Day event in Port Elizabeth have protested outside the Wolfson stadium on Saturday ahead of a speech by Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane.

“The protesters told us that they were not properly consulted about the event and complained about the lack of service delivery,” said police spokesman Major Ernest Sigobe.

Police had to intervene to calm down the crowd who had been burning tyres and barricading roads nearby, he said.

“We explained to them that their protest was illegal and requested them to follow the right procedures to address their grievances,” said Sigobe.

“Fortunately they listened and the situation returned to normal.”

The protest had taken place before Chabane’s scheduled address at the stadium at 10am.

Chabane’s spokesman Harold Maloka said the minister had delivered his speech.

“The minister has spoken…he is fine.”

He did not want to comment on the protest and referred questions related to it to police authorities.

Initially, President Jacob Zuma was to speak at the stadium but pulled out to attend the G20 meeting in Mexico, which starts on Monday. Chabane replaced him.—Sapa.

A bunch of knuckleheads were blocking up Prince George Drive causing a huge traffic jam yesterday afternoon before and during rush hour. They were carrying DA banners. Dimwitted Metro police were standing around, but as usual none of these brain donors thought to put up warnings further from where the disrupters were blocking traffic, so that people could take an alternative route before they hit the chaos.

It's about time that TPTB got a pair of balls and arrest people and lay charges against illegal protests and what not. Al this Constitutional rights is BS. With the amount of people blocking roads and causeing kak for law abiding road users the government must make THEM pay a fee for using the road like they do with normal vehicle users.

If you cannot arrest people on the road for rioting or protesting lock them up for jaywalking, they will soon STFU.

If ever the DA loses its footing as the official opposition you can bet the ANC will run riot over everyone and everything in this country UNLESS they implode upon themselves with all the infighting and corruption they involved in.

The reason for the protest was unknown ...

No it's not.

It's very well known.

They like throwing stones because they like throwing stones.

And because our western polity doesn't suit them.

I've said it (not on this forum) since late 1999 that democracy has never been the system that Africa needed.
Communism is what Africa needs.

But before anyone overreacts ... it is not the version of Stalin and the old Soviet union.
It's the theoretical version of Marx and Lenin I'm talking about. And it would only work on Africa ... no where else on earth. This would have worked much better than anything else the west have been jamming down Africa's throat so far. The Communists knew this. That's why the soviets have been campaigning in Africa since way back then and why ... (on a lighter note) Africans still call each other "comrade".

I'm not surprised, savages being savage. It's like these people are allergic to sitting down and dealing with their problems in a civil manner. Violence is the opening hand of the savage and the closing hand of the civilized.

There is no reason for the protests.... destabilise the region, declare a provincial emergency, and then the ANC Govt can take control of it without a vote. Its easier than winning a by election.

Notice is the DA run wards that are mostly suffering with 'Protests with unknown reason' (Meyerton is another)

Exactly. I don't see how Police can just stand and watch whilst savages dig holes in national highways and burn tyres. Rubber bullets and tear gas is needed.

Arrest them for jaywalking.
Arrest them for loitering.
Arrest them for disturbing the peace.
Arrest them for littering.
Arrest them for an illegal protest.

So all the protests that have been happening were against the DA?

Trust me these are not aimed at the DA else my inbox would be spammed with DA info mails trying to denounce the potestes. To be honest nobody has any clue why they are protesting. If it where aimed at the DA then it would be on a much larger scale.

One must also note that all the protests are in ANC strongholds, not DA areas.
