Cape Town

thx zerofive, any other people, arround? I'm stayin in La Rochelle and is waiting for either the Amanda Glen or Loevenstein tower, just wondering when they will by up and going

Today I phoned Sentech to try and find out what is happening with Loevenstein, well those stupid flucks do not know what is happening with there own products.
I seem to know more what is going on just by reading these forums than what the Sentech technicians do.
So my question is:

How can I (Or us folks) on these forums find out when Loevenstein will go live?

Someone at Sentech must be dealing with the objections and know when the case will be heard of whatever they do to discuss these things; maybe it is done in parliament.

Can some clever person shed some light on this and let us know when this will happen.

I live about 5 km closer to the milnerton tower, but, I still connect to the Salt River tower 10km's away. No Wire advises that I buy a patch panel to connect to the Milnerton tower. So I did. My speeds dropped by 50%. Removed patch panel and am now downloading from Salt River at an average of 13.6 KB/s. The logic here is somewhat warped. How can this be happening?

Wonder how you manage 10km when the tower is supposed to be limited to 6.5 max ? Either the tower has not been adjusted and you'll loose your connection when they do adjust it, or you're closer than you think.

I live in Tygerhof, milnerton. I measured the distance to the Milnerton myself, 4.6KM, and I have driven past the supposed site (according to No Wire) of the Salt River tower and measured it at 9.8KM, but thats as the road takes me. I cant fly...yet

you don't have to fly....use Nic's tower distance calculator here :
http://rational.co.za/MyWireless/calculate.html. If it's offline, then Menlo(66) is probably having trouble. BTW, we all know how you lot in Cpt drive ;-)

Was finally awake when my train went past the De grendal station and low an behold i look out an c the sentech antennas(wow what a site) funny thing i noticed that they one pointing to tygerberg hill is angled almost up. weird

also just across from karl bremer hospital there are two apartment buildings with wifi antennas also set up there.
wonder if those are wireless onlines antennas.

Any news bout Loevenstein yet? I phoned Harold Bennie and he told me it will be up and running today, but seems nothing is going on and in Jhb they cant help

emailman... Spoke to Harold today and he said Lovenstein is up....but.... they are testing it before it goes live. Asked about Amanda Glen..... only in NOVEMBER. Forgot to ask him which year tho :-)

Lovenstein was supposed to be up and running this last friday. Will follow up with someone I know and let you know in the morning.

There was an issue with one of the public, with regards to Lovenstein, but now seems to be sorted.

Under the circumstances I believe the SENTECH technical guys are doing a hellva job.

Dont know if you guys remember when cellular technology started here, was not much different, and look where it is today.[8D]

all sentech has done is caused havoc evrey where. if your happy and you know it clap your hands! ^$^$^ im glad i got my owne sources of B/W

too bad we cant integrate mesh networks with sentech's offering.

does anyone know if its possible to have one pc with a couple of sentech modems connected route the signal to their owners through wifi nets?

Lastest estimate of Newlands going up: 4-5 weeks from now.

Multiple Modems on 1 pc is possible ... Rodent's linux driver supports up to 255 modems ... I've tested 2 at the same time ... obviously you need different user accounts etc etc ...

Just need to get a bit of clarification.

I have been in contact with the Mywireless support about coverage in Sea point Cape Town.

The helpdesk informs me that building permits have not yet been approved and the earliest date for service would be November, more likely to be early next year.

Due to this, I will be sending my sentech back and receiving a full refund.

However, I now see from ProAsm ( who from what I understand works for sentech?)
" Loevenstein is complete except for the Cape Town public objection to the Tower.
Next to go on, hopefully before end July are Seapoint, Newlands and Durbanville.
All present operating Towers will also get all sectors fitted as some only have 1 or 2 sectors."

Where does this information come from? a small case of the left hand not talking to the right.

Will I have service towards the end of July? or will it be next year? this obviously determines weather sentech looses yet another customer.

Thanks,

Daniel.
