Car advice

If you keeping you Velo.
I saw a place that does AC units without connecting it to the cars engine.
Ran on some other power supply. So your little 1.4 will still have some power;)

Can you remember a ballpark figure? So they have their own power supply, but does this also charge from the alternator?

No, not really. I have this new thing going where I am recommending as many people as possible to buy/drive Citi Golfs.

1. True
2. 4x? Naaaaaaaaah. That's just crazy talk. So far my diesel is costing THE SAME on maintenance as my petrol. Just the equivalent petrol version costs less to purchase initially, that's all. [okay, so maintenance intervals so far have been slightly shorter with the diesel, so that means you pay for a service more frequently]

ROFL...wait for 80 000Km's then you'll start crying...

I hear what you are saying and I love my Velo dearly. We have been through a lot together and she has never let me down. But I just feel it is time for something better and less of an insurance risk.

My fuel economy gripe stems from the fact that I only get around 500km off a tank at best which is not great. Also, I drove a hired Megane sedan for a month and got exactly the same fuel economy driving the same routes with aircon on as I do in my Velo with no aircon, and that Megane was the size of a small boat in comparison :p

Have a look here at Yaris fuel economy:

42l Tank = R618 KM's, show me a diesel engine that can do that... :D

Seriously? I drove the Yaris way back when and the plasticy feel of the car really put me off.
Biased much :p You base this assumption on what?

What's wrong with VW, I have a polo and a Golf 5 and they are the best cars I've ever owned. I still think in the small car category the polo is the best buy. Just sit in a polo versus a yaris and immediately you notice the difference in build quality, there's just no comparing.

hj2k_x... If you look at a 2004/5 polo TDI, you can pick one up between R50-R70k, services are cheap and the milleage is unbelievable. You won't have hassles with the aircon or inclines either... they have plenty of torque ;)

Ok so tell me Mr Clarkson, why is it that 2 consecutive years has the yaris been the top selling car in SA? And not only The Yaris, but most of the Toyota range?

(Not the yaris, but a toyota)

(June this year, also a toyota)

Now tell me, when last did you sit in the new Yaris or even Auris range, and then gotten into a VW Polo and almost puked...
You cannot possibly think they are plasticy...if you do, you need your eyes checked.

I personally know of 5 mates who bought the cheesy Polo 1.9Tdi when it came out, and within 3 months they all needed the turbo's replaced.
It was actually so bad that VW recalled all first range of 1.9Tdi's because they realised that it was junk.

A diesel engine and a Turbo are two things that should never be put together.

i hate diesel.. but i said he should go for it for his needs :)

and you think 500k's of 45L's is bad, i have a 1.6, and struggle to get 500k's out of my 62L tank !!

what i would recommend, is keep the velo (puke) :P then start saving every month rather then buy a car in the 100k range when you have saved up enough !
