Hi,

I was wondering and looking to confirm

I got two fines for my car's license disk being expired but during the 21 day grace period.

Is this invalid or still a valid fine that I have to pay? My old man says that if I have my proof of payment which indicates I paid during this 21 days grace time-frame, I should not be liable for these fines nor should have been fined and mind you I displayed the new disk after I renewed it during this period.

So if this is the case, I am going to contest it in court as its R1000.

Kind Regards,
Jason

If you get a fine during the 21 day grace period, you take your proof of payment with you to the traffic department and show it to them so that they can withdraw the fine.
If you are in Joburg or Pretoria you may have to complete an AARTO 08 dispute form (Google for it).

My license disc fell off, and I put it on my dashboard within clear view, you can't miss it. This was all in one morning, and sure as fck, I got a R780 fine. WTF.

I told the guy look at that, it's there, paid up, up to date, it just came off like 2 hours ago. He said go argue that in court. I told him tsek, come collect the money if you want to see it. ****.

Hi LazyLion,

So this is the case? I asked the lady when I was renewing it and she said no I cant but I got the impressions she didn't know what I was asking or couldn't be arsed to help so just gave a generic answer.

Also, is it possible to get a copy of your payment from the traffic department? My housemate threw my receipt and form that the disk came on away. My old man says you can get a copy, but always best to get a 2nd opinion.

Kind Regards,

Murphy's Law Sloot!
They just trying to meet their own quota and ****..

Yeah, I'm not a tinfoil hatter, but I don't believe the traffic department's main aim is road safety. Imagine the horror they would face if everyone (and I mean literally every single road user) perfectly obeyed the traffic laws and rules, and no fines can be issued.

Your OLD MAN is right.

There a no longer a grace period. I think there is a grace period on your driver licence though if you have the receipt.

Wtf, since when? You got proof of this? I renewed mine on the 20th after it expired last month thinking I still have till the 21st.

I think he is wrong as even my Renewal Notice letter said I had 21 days ("after 22nd of he following month") to renew before penalties etc.

Bah. Wait. I was wrong. Was looking at something else.
I see for driver licences there is a 3 month grace period if you applied while it was stil valid.

My notice might have said the same, can't remember. Also, is it my imagination or did the fees go up?

Not only did the license fee go up, but the eNatis transaction fee went up something like 30%
