Hi guys, so i used to own a chevrolet cruze and it drove nice and was a nice car but wow it chowed fuel omg. Sold it now contemplating buying either a golf 6 gti or a bmw 520d m sport .... Now i am buying either of these car for performance and modifications. Which car is much easier to modify and get the most out of? I would like to modify and get more power and speed out the car. in addition, which of the two cars, after mods, would be easier to maintain? I was recently in a friend's BMW 525 and that car wow.... the power it had. I am sure he did something to it. Then also took a ride in an old golf 5 gti but that thing drove like crazy and handled nicely at top speeds. So which car would be easy to modify and maintain between those two that i mentioned earlier? which mods would you fit for power and performance (as in speed).

How long is a piece of string?

If you planning on buying either, start by getting a clean example with a full service history. Then perform preventative maintenance before doing any mods.
Lastly, remember to inform your insurance (I suspect insurance won't be applicable)

So going from a normal car that uses a lot of fuel to something else that will use more fuel than the Chevy could ever use in a month.
Brilliant!
Hahahaha i know right bro. But bro... The feeling is insane when you drive properly tuned car.... man The power and how it lunges forward when u step on the gas. i want that.... I do. Honestly .... It was one of the most beautiful and exciting things i have ever felt.

Hope your bank manager agrees. Sadly stuff like that I consider to be below my intelligence

hahahahaha. obviously the bank would advise against it but still, i just need to do it lol

In that case. Ignore my previous advice.

Go to one of the car dealers in JHB CBD and buy the cheapest GTI you can't get (cheaper car = more money for mods)
Cone filter, straight pipe exhaust (drone?! What drone) hybrid turbo and a pops and bangs map to round everything off.

Use the Insurance money on a monthly basis to upgrade from drinking black label and switch to Heineken

Hahahahah I like the line which u used about use the insurance money hahaha.... but on a serious note. are golfs easier to modify than BMWs?

If you want more power and speed, why not start with a 540i or Merc E500?
Well I do not know much about what needs to be modified so had started with cars that i would love to drive and that i do like. I wanted to put an audi in the mix but the price for the parts ruled all audis out... too expensive. but the bmw 540i seems nice, if i can get it for a reasonable price. So far i have only seen the 520d

Yes bro the F10 i forgot to mention in the post.
Okay.

GTIs are tuned commonly. Seeing that the one in question is a 6 which means its at least 10 years old, do preventative maintenance BEFORE any mods (this includes DSG service if its a non-manual). And don't cheap out too on the preventative maintenance. I've seen crap quality mods to elite setups, so your budget would determine the modding route you should go for.

520d is probably the B47 or N47. Both super reliable engines. Again, preventative maintenance is key here. As far as I know there are additional complexities with tuning diesels which others can speak to.

To your question on costs, no doubt the Golf would cost less to maintain. But as a lover of the 320d Fanboys Thread, I can tell you that diesel power is excellent.

What are you leaning towards?
