Hey I don't think they are bad cars. But they are 100% you get what you pay for :o That is the one car you are not allowed to complain about.

Did nobody who has owned a corsa previously have problems with the fuel pipe?

The reason i say this is my previous car a Corsa 1.4i was leaking petrol. I took it to a mechanic and he said the fuel pipe had weathered away and went on to say it was a common problem with Opels. You also had to spend the money to buy the genuine Ppel part as they were clever enough to make the holes on either side of the pipe two different sizes, so you couldn't use anything else.

The fuel lines, NO. The breather hose, yes, it'll only leak when you fill up tho, they perish over time, costs around R150 from GM for that breather hose, you also need 2 pipe clamps. 10 minute job to replace it. I think Goldwagen also sells those but @ R150 I just went for the original.

The fuel lines don't leak, I haven't ever encountered anyone with a leaking fuel line, the type they use are incredibly robust.

Yes that's it, it was the breather hose not the fuel line. Yes they told me i can buy one from Goldwagen but they ended up organising me one anyway.

I've just never heard of that hose leaking on another car.

My ex fiance's fuel line leaked, but mine was ok... I only got a torn rubber pipe that goes to the airbox... it affected my idling big time. Might have been the breather pipe, cant remember what it was called. Had loads kinks in the pipe.

Me either but considering a monkey can do it, I wasn't overly worried. Pissed me off the first time seeing my precious petrol dripping on the pavement after filling up. The newer Opel's come with a different hose tho so I think they've fixed the problem.

I think the problem is because that hose serves no purpose other than to allow air to escape from the fuel tank while they are filling up (so it fills up quicker), but if you over fill the hose becomes filled with petrol. Most petrol attendants overfill, when the filler clicks and stops that's when they are supposed to stop but usually they'll keep filling and pushing the car until it will not take 1 extra drop.

Fuel lines you'll notice very quickly, there'll be petrol spraying all over the place because the fuel pressure is kept at 2.5 - 3 bar so your tank will be emptied very quickly not to mention the car won't run very well.

OMG!! I'd forgotten all about that. Happened to me in 2006. Was quite simple to have fixed though. I never was told exactly what the problem was (I'm quite a noob when it comes to car mechanics).

I miss my 1.6 Corsa GSi :(

It was an AMAZING little car. Extremely powerful, fun and light on juice! I picked mine up for R75k with 21,000km on the clock.

I now have the heavier, slower, 4 door 1.8 GSi ...

The nice thing about opel/VW/toyota is that parts are easily attainable, relatively cheap and if you break down in ventersdorp any mechanic can fix it. Insurance is also not bad.

That's my 5c.

Yeah, don't get cars that you can't get spares for!!! My brother was a idiot and bought a Renault. Car broke down in Mosselbay and they had to be towed to George. Once there the tow car had broken something else on the car, response from Renault. It'll take 3 weeks minimum to get the item.

Speaking of parts...

A couple of years ago i worked in the motor industry and the Dealer Principal of a Peugeot dealership said to me that parts are a nightmare to get hold of. He said it could take anything from a couple of weeks to months to acquire a part. So the proof is in the pudding when it comes from the DP's mouth.

Yip you're right Gnome. The mechanic did actually mention that now that i think about it. He was saying how if you fill up the tank too much that hose fills with petrol and causes problems. The day i happened to notice it i had just come from the petrol station where i asked him to give me a full tank.

gdiza aren't you a young guy? get a bakkie! Bantam or Corsa util. Awesome vehicles for their price.. Just load boards, bikes, babes whatever and off you go. If you go to festivals etc just put a mattress in the back and you are sorted :)

My 2c...

Look for a Corsa with aircon and PS, or a honda ballade (the engines never die apparently). I would not go for a CItigolf. Much better cars out there nowadays for your money.

gdiza: The Tazz is pretty rock solid, dunno much about the Corsa Lite but they've been known to blow over- a friend of mine was driving out in the Karoo when a strong gust caused her car to flip over.

The only stress that comes from owning a Tazz is the thief factor...they're so damn easy to steal...either make sure that you have a garage to park it overnight or fit some sort of a (physical) lock on the thing.

What about joining the AA?

Does anyone know the prices for the following that they offer?

AA Advantage PLUS
AA Advantage
AA Alliance
AA Action

Thanks for the advice, but what about getting stuff like, gear locks or steering lock or even BOTH
