Car purchase...

We are talking where you turn the wheel and it goes click if the key isn't in the ignition and/or turned. My uno you have to do a good twist, my bantam immediately engages it when the key comes out, so you wont even see me do it. Most cars have it and thiefs can bypass that easily enough because they've learnt how over the years.

Don't know what you are refering too.

This is the SL that I know... it might be easy to defeat, but it's still a added 'pain'

Just got off the phone with Outsurance, after a long chat, they want R850pm for insurance.

It includes alot, but I can't afford that :(

Don't bother with them, they're evil.

Think they wanted more than R1800 from me for my new Honda. I had a license for just over a year at that stage IIRC. First Honda was insured for R30k, new Honda was insured for was insured for R120k, and R250k household. Total is just over R1100 for all that, and that includes the R100 for no excess. My old Honda alone is about R200.

Before that I was with another company. R30k Honda alone was about R400/month for a new driver.

I want to get insurance, but who to go for who won't rob me blind!

I mean, I want to get a decent car first car so I can't spend R800 on insurance, I simply can't afford that... R500 MAX is what I'm looking at.

Oh!

Check this!

I just got a SMS from FNB saying R200 has been put into my bank account.
Reference is a friend's name.
So I call him and ask him what is going on.

He tells me it's a 'donation' towards my car deposit.

Sooooooooooooooo cool! :)
That just put a huge smile on my face.

/me wonders if gdiza offered him a "ride":sick:

Yeah... I've been avoiding a few as of late (avoiding going out - basically, saving every cent I can) and that has not impressed a few, but I'm hoping that in the long run, they understand.

The sacrifices are worth it in the end.

Re insurance. You're... probably early 20s? With no insurance record and no claims/loss history. Unlikely that you'll find anything less than R800. If you do, with one of the lesser-known insurance companies, your excess will probably be extreme. And DO NOT, under any circumstances, go with Auto&General or any of their affiliated company.

You just got your license, sorry to say but if you have a car on your name it's gonna cost you. Just to give you a idea, I'm 22, I've had my license since 18, I've never had a accident, the car I drive (Corsa) is on my Mom's name (which makes it cheaper) and it's insured in the name of my Mom's business with me as the driver (also making it cheaper). I pay R400 a month. You can call around but I'm not sure you'll be getting R500 with a new car and the fact that you just got you license. Premium is more expensive if you are under 25 and/or you have had your license for less than 5 years.

Did you try http://www.miway.co.za

NB: When you apply for insurance, include household contents. That way, you reduce your overall risk. I saved myself +-R500 PM because I included household content. I got quoted R1300+ everywhere I called, but called again with house contents and I'm paying about R900. Still expensive due to my previous claims and other stuff. I'll eventually pay +-R600, hopefully.

gdiza, I think SoundMatch and/or Sound Addikts in the southern suburbs both sell and install those immobilisers etc...

TB: You seem pretty clued up on this. Are you advising not to buy Golfs such as a Golf 4 for example? I love Toyotas (Conquest) etc but they're easy to break into and I was told it's incredibly hard to get the door of a newer Golf open.

I know there are alot of places that do stuff for cars, but I've heard alot of horror stories but anyways, I'll be looking at Soundmatch at some point.

I sent a e-mail to Killarney Training Centre enquiring about doing an advanced driving courses.

Which btw, if you do and send the certificates to your insurance company, many will drop your premiums (or at least, Outsurance said they would)

Anyways...

They replied:

Dear Nick

Thank you for your enquiry.

I am attaching pricing and information on the various course options. I
would like to caution you that our prices will unfortunately be increasing
in the very near future.

Your course selection would depend on what prompted your enquiry, and would
vary, depending on what it is you wish to achieve.

Everything begins with "Day 1" / Module I (07:45 - 16:00), which is held

their own vehicles. Next available dates for "Day 1" are as follows:

mercurial : I'm only advocating not buying a citi golf. Golf 4 etc etc are decent cars...

How much would it reduce your premiums though?

When I told the guy from Outsurance that I wanted to do the ADC's, he said that after, I must send in the certificates and Outsurance will look at my premiums again and adjust accordingly - nothing about by how much.

But anything that keeps the vehicle safe etc would mean less of a risk etc.
