Car regrets

Cars i owned:
Mazda Midge- Regret selling this one, should have kept it, was light on fuel and reliable, had it for 7 years
Fiat Palio- Was ok until the sensors started making crap and it was expensive to replace them so cut my losses, Wife had the exact same model for 12 years with no major issues, cam belt snapped twice but no damage to motor
Golf Chico- Not many issues, had a fuel pump issue and worn gear linkages, wasnt a bad car, a bit boring but did the job i guess
Ford Ka- Never should have bought the rust bucket, was very light on fuel and the wife loved to drive it but yea wasnt a good purchase
Nissan 1400- Biggest regret selling this but sold it to my old man at the start of covid after he got retrenched and had to start his own business, he sold it a few months ago at a decent profit.
Fiat Uno- Bought as a cheap run around as i work from home, was ok in the beggining but started being unreliable so sold it
Chev Aveo- Worst mistake of my life which im still living with, parts are non existent and expensive, ridiculously heavy on fuel. We planning on trading it in next month on a new car for the wife, she wrote her i10 off a few months ago and this is our way of getting rid of this mistake.

Then bikes are way too many to mention LOL, ive had 50-100 bikes in the last 20 years

Biggest regret was a Ford territory. What should I have gotten instead? Anything. That was an unreliable thirsty piece of crap. Every off road excursion resulted in 3 days at the dealership. After 6 months they still hadn't figured out where the ungodly banging in the front end was coming from so I told them to fkn keep it.

Four Liters of First On Rubbish Dump that thing is.

Had plenty of cars and the only one I regretted buying was the 1996 Ford Falcon. Biggest petrol guzzling POS ever. Would have gladly donated it to Carl N. Only car I ever regretted not buying was the Capri Perana.

Only regret with my current car is i shouldn't have opted for 22" wheels and while it certainly looks amazing, and grips like its stuck to the road with glue with the Pirellis, the offroad capability has been hampered because its like your spine is being destroyed lol. And that's with air suspension..

Yes.
The Nissan 1400 skedonk special I bought for my brother.

First car: Toyota Aygo. Loved it to bits, only sold it to another brother because he didn't have a car.
Second car: The aforementioned Nissan 1400. Nothing to do with the car, I knew what I was buying. My brother got it stolen just after I had it serviced and put a new radiator in. Managed to get it back, but what little was there on the car was ruined. Sold it very soon after. Still, the thing never had an issue that you couldn't fix with a suitable amount of hammering.
Third car: Fiat Doblo Panorama, seemingly as rare as chicken's teeth, but there is no vehicle on SA's roads that is as suitable for our purposes as it. Monstrous on the inside, light on fuel and comfortable. Not to mention sliding doors.

Polo cross, brand new out the box and it was the worst, kills me to think i traded my 320i e46 for it.
Traded the polo in on a jetta 6 And eventually traded that in on a fortuner.
Car I miss the most is my golf mk1 that a truck squashed.

I bought a Fiesta ST through a friend...never again in my life. Should've just stuck with the Opel Astra my dad gave me :p

Which model year? What went wrong?

He bought a POS Ford. I have never seen a Focus / Fiesta ST without some or other engine light continuously illuminated.

2005 BMW 318ti. Husband of a lady who worked for me lost his job and was selling the car for a bargain price in 2007 - R85k. It was worth R130k retail and R105k trade

Nice car. It was on a motorplan with Auric Auto in Claremont. Dreadful workshop. It went in for 30 000km service, came back with an oil leak, a tyre with a flat spot where they had locked the brakes (why?) and a broken seat recliner handle. They tried 4 times to fix the oil leak and wanted to charge me R11k. In the end I had a mechanic friend to look at it. The AA workshop had mislaid the sump nut washer and over-tightened the nut, damaging the thread. Such a simple fix confirmed their shoddy service

About 6 months later a front brake pad split in half, so back it went. There was a ramp in this workshop from the first floor. AA’s workshop assistant managed to drive the car off the ramp. It fell 2m onto 2 customers cars and was written off

The ins co paid me R118k. Auric Auto hid behind their “not responsible” clause. A grudging apology

I am enjoying my e90 325i still but wish I bought a 330d in hindsight with the way fuel prices are going !
