Which car did you get and which car should you have gotten ?

First Car: Ford Lazer tracer
Should have got: A bakkie, I spent most of my student life moving stuff around and would have been great to have a Corsa bakkie or the likes.

Second car: Nissan Micra
Should have got: Micra, no regrets. I loved this car so much but should have sold it before it got old. I should have traded it in for a Jimney when I had the chance, they were new and going cheap.

Third Car: Honda Ballade
Should have got: Renault Duster, they had just been launched/relaunched and were going cheap. I didn't bother looking at them but a while later I rode in one as a rental and was blown away at how good it actually was.

So the Ballade is paid off but annoying the **** out of me so next chance I get i'll be looking to rectify that mistake - also I'm going to test drive every single car in my budget and not have any more regrets.

Only regret my current car.

Renault Megane GT. Still a great car, no issues with it, and it was awesome at that point in my life.

A year later the kid was born and I wish I went for something with more space - a sedan or SUV. Something like a Subaru WRX when it was still relatively attainable. I can't justify paying today's prices for a new one...

First car, Golf mk1,
Should have gotten? **** all else, that thing was brilliant!

5th or 17th car, Mahindra bakkie
Should have gotten? The SUV, missed so much space in the back that I never used cause opening the canopy was a schlep

latest car, Ford Everest
Love it, but we moved into a house this year and i could have done with a bakkie

Its crazy though how this happens. Like every single time there are cars that are attainable when I'm looking around but a few years later after I got something else and relooking they are all way out of what I can afford (or Justify)

Jimney and Duster are case in point.

So now I'm going to not trust my gut and go look at all those cars that I automatically excluded because they just didn't feel right.

I got S3
Should have not changed from a m135 and got a m140 instead.

I describe the S3 as a fast car for people who dont like cars. It is fast off the line, isnt awful at handling, wont kill you, isnt particularly punchy once you get going and makes an awful noise. Almost the exact opposite of the 135 at the time.

Mine is probably that car inflation is so much higher than normal inflation that each time I think I will save but the price just increase so dramatically more that is becomes affordable

Entry level Polo is like 330K. That is almost like a student car overseas. Yet theirs come with so many extras we don't get. If you do add it the price just increases dramatically.

The Vivo is from R263,600 with no extras.
In 2010 it was R100K. That's like 163% increase in 12 years. A lot more than inflation

Got a 320d, should have bought a 330d.

Bought a 330d few years later both great cars.

Regret selling the 330d, back in a 2.0d albeit the x3 version.

I'd have to say my only real car regret was an Audi I bought many a year ago from a dodgy dealership.

He went out of his way to hide some significant accident damage to the vehicle. Thankfully my only saving grace with the deal was that he had affiliated himself with McCarthy at the time, so when I got them involved in the fight he backed down very very quickly.

My Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost Titanium - Was a decent car but it was small, and compared to other cars I owned it was not very manly.

Cars I regret selling
BMW 320I E46
Golf 7 GTI

My first few cars I don't regret buying. Then at one point I bought a Renault Scenic, that one I regret. Only had 3 months.

Second Car I had - Citroen C2 VTR
Should have got: Anything else. The C2 cost me a lot of money over the 18 months I had it. Glad I got rid of it. French piece of dogs***!

Cars I regret selling:
Mazda 3 Dynamic
Hyundai iX35

Recently bought a '13 Audi S4.

I would have regretting buying it, if it was a daily - because that 3.0L, V6 Supercharged motor is not light on juice.

But if I needed a daily; I would not have bought it. I needed the space of a sedan for the family.

Luckily I only do about 10km a week in it, maybe a little more.

On the G6, I had a humming noise from day one on the suspension and took it back to the Principal dealer and 2 other VW service centers and no could find the fault.

Three cars, no regrets.

Current is a third gen Suzuki Jimny, six years old, and hopefully still got ten years to go.

I bought a Fiesta ST through a friend...never again in my life. Should've just stuck with the Opel Astra my dad gave me :p
