Car remote jamming insurance warning

I still don't get how people are still not looking at their car to make sure it locks.

Good.

Cause you didn't lock your car, you just think you locked it. My car doesn't have a remote, I lock it manually, and still make sure its locked by pulling on the handle, because the other criminal trick is to pull the handle of the one door so that the door pops open ever so slightly and when you lock it (manually or remotely) the doors try to lock and then unlock because the one door is not properly closed..

I've always said the exact same ; but they got me :(

Momentary lapse of concentration

Insurances companies (yes, all of them) will try anything to avoid paying out a claim; they're as devious as the crooks themselves.

wow, you Must be dealing with some dodgy insurance companies as I haven't ever had a claim denied, in 36 years.

To be fair to them, insurance fraud is very rife. People driving drunk and bribing the police, people selling their cars and claiming hijack or claiming for damage and cashing in with panel beaters. So when it is disputable they tend not to pay.

With some cars you can's see if it has locked because the locking mechanism isn't visible.
What do you do when your car has a keyless entry system?

I also lock my car manually, and then pull the handle to check that it is locked. This also shows potential thieves that I have checked it.
There is no excuse for not checking that it is locked.

Then you suffer the fate of having such a car.
Seriously, who would buy such a car in South Africa?
You only have yourself to blame.
You knew the risks.

And this is not victim blaming, this is just common sense.

So let me understand this correctly - my car is insured against the risk of theft, but the insurance companies don't want to ensure the risk you pay full premium for because of the type of risk there is in South Africa and the rest of the world - how fresh is that?

They don't only jam car remotes in SA - these jammers come from overseas. This method of theft is not exclusive to RSA.

This is just another way to give car insurers a reason to push up premiums which are already ridiculous in South Africa.

Huh? I think you missed something... this article is about the crims that steal the valuables in your unlocked car (the laptop and tablets and GPS and such) and leave your car where it is...
