Car under R50K

The i10 is a horrible car any which way you cut it....
Nope, it drives very nicely - better than the i20 - its nippy and has lots of kit. I never liked Hyundai until the first time I drove an i10. Since then I have driven many flavors of i10 but the ride remains excellent. Its go kart like when you want it to be and reasonable refined if your inner hooligan has gone to rest.

On that budget I definitely would also look at a low mileage used Corsa Essentia, one with about 2 years of service plan left. They are a lot better that you would expect from something called Corsa.

For R50K or less. I would buy a neat Mercedes W124 1992 230E (+-R30K) and spend R20K making sure its reliable.
For R140K. 1.4 VW Polo Vivo with 3000km on the clock.

Incredible deal that.

With me retiring at the end of May, I had to finally grab something that I could get for cash - couldn't believe it when I saw what my customer had to trade in on a new 500!

Grabbed it with both hands! :D

would love one of those. big services are expensive but its an excellent car. faster than the younger ones even. very jealous.

i10 a go-kart? :erm:

It's slow as ****. You are right on one aspect though... the i20 is even slower.

Added to that, it's seems your standards are set very low.

Here's your go-kart's specs:

Although the Grand i10 is clearly designed with urban consumers in mind, cars like the Swift have raised consumer expectations of the performance potential of smaller cars. To put things in perspective, the Grand i10 takes a very leisurely 20.25 seconds to get to 100kph while the Swift dispatches the same in 13.5sec. In-gear acceleration times aren’t good news either – 40-100kph in fourth takes 17.23sec in the Hyundai while the Swift does the same in 13.91sec.

Hyundai hasn’t quite mastered the black art of ride and handling and, as a result, most of its cars are below class standards when it comes to dynamics.

0-100kph in 20s seems extremely slow... I'm sure it's at least faster than that, but still, it's not 'go-kart'.

Thanks! I'll be doing my own servicing. ;)

Hells bells, when the Indian press aren't impressed with a car's performance, then you know that it is bloody pathetic! :p

I see the quote I provided was for the diesel i10, hence its poor performance of around 20s from 0-100km/h.

The petrol variant saves a bit of face with a 0-100km/h of around 13s.

Still, it's no go-kart! :p

The last go kart that I can remember was the 1983 Charade which cost under 6 k new, and all you had to do was fit a set of nice mags with some grippy tyres, and the thing handled like a go kart - a pleasure to drive! ;)

And got faster after every trip!
With the latest bit to rust off ☺

Mine never rusted, but I guess it's the way a car is looked after whether it rusts or not.

I still see quite a few on the road down here, and they are still going strong - 31 years later!

It's fast enough and even with pretty rough side winds it sticks to the road.

While I have not driven a Swift yet you did raise my interest in it. The 1.2 GL looks like a much better deal than the i10 1.25, quite keen to try one out.
