Cast-iron pans

I've always avoided non-stick coatings to exposure to high temps so that's out. Also don't put non-stick pans in the oven so that's out too. But at that price I'd just buy and use for eggs anyway.
Fry Exactly. It will fine to eggs or even grilled cheese sandwiches, plus I’m not going to care if the kids mess it up.

We always cook our lamb chops on a thick cast iron seasoned pan with butter and fresh garlic and fresh rosemary. We also cook asparagus in same pan afterwards with the juices. Absolute heaven. After we wash our pan under hot running water we apply a very very very quick fine spray of Spray and Cook to the pan so that it doesn't get any small surface rust spots. Will never cook lamb chops any other way again. Served with fresh fluffy mashed potatoes.

My Victoria arrived today so I'm anxious to try something in it. Have not cooked in cast iron except for potjie. Even my current potjie is enameled so it's been a while.

Except it still retains the same cooking properties as untreated carbon steel and it's dishwasher safe.

And it was R30.

Was more that I don’t believe it’s carbon steel.

But for R30 doing non-stick it’s certainly a winner.

I’m just over replacing these things every year.

Thing is within a year they aren't as good as when they started out and then you might as well season a cast iron or carbon steel and be on your way as the performance is about the same.

Stainless Steel even.

Nah you are right stainless is very hard to use non-stick.

Takes a lot of nerd rage and figuring out perfect temperatures and even then it’s not worth it.

Dammit now I want a Victoria Tortilla press but anywhere outside America it’s outrageous.

Figured I would have my boss bring one from the UK but it’s the same as local pricing.

heres one for cheap

you not using it as a resturant

This sure fills me with confidence.

Either it’s really aluminium (which is kak) made to look like cast iron, or it really is cast iron but they can’t even get the basics like the description right.

Nah, I’d rather pay than be endlessly frustrated by a piece of kak like this.

The one I returned was aluminum. I spotted a cast iron press on Temu this morning, ~R600.

And will cost as much to get here I’m sure, even with the special Chinese shipping prices.

But I’ve also watched enough videos and read enough reviews to know even the two different Victoria price tiers are vastly different in performance so I won’t be ****ing around with this.

The one I bought claimed to be cast iron, they lied.

Might be worth calling these guys and seeing when they're getting stock, assuming the site is legit.

I don’t necessarily believe it but…
A tortilla press must be used with a corn dough – made from either fresh masa or masa harina. This press will not work if you are trying to make wheat flour tortillas, as the wheat flour dough will spring back due to the presence of gluten in the flour. Wheat tortillas should be prepared by rolling the dough with a rolling pin

I’m ordering an 8” Victoria off Amazon. I’ll fetch it in June.

Azteca stock masa harina. After the failed Takealot press I made tortillas using masa harina, pressed on a counter top with a large casserole dish... not ideal but it worked.
