Cast-iron pans

I think there is a victoria cast iron tortilla press on Yuppiechef's website if that helps

Granted I did not read all 15 pages of this thread

I think most shy away due to the price where a $25 price tag becomes R1500

Which it seems is very much wrapped up in shipping costs and duties as the price difference between the normal 8-inch and the HD 10-inch is actually pretty small.

Duties are one thing, they should be the same regardless of if YC is importing them or we are personally.

However, I can't believe they are paying as much for shipping, or paying retail prices for that matter, as buying them off Amazon directly. As it is they'll ship one here for R1250.

Oh certainly they are making some margin and not paying retail.

But I doubt shipping is changing much for something so heavy and bulky at that as I’m sure it comes in a sizeable box as well.

Yuppiechef is a bit expensive. It may be that they got stock at a different exchange rate also and of course shipping is on them. They carry stock at the moment so if for some reason you're in a hurry you'd get it quicker.

So far I've made steak, egg, toast, and even scrambled egg in my Victoria skillet. Very happy with it but I'm still learning to manage the heat. Need to get an IR thermometer.

Wanna try a skillet pizza next.

Me too, would love one of those.

Our parcels are coming by air but it would make much more sense for them to ship, in larger quantities, by surface.

Made another last night - well worth the minimal effort.

Sure of thumb is they take a LONG ass time to heat up and settle down and you generally want to use lower heat than you think you need.

Generally the way I handle my Le Creuset is to run it at full power on my ceramic top electric stove for a minute or so and then I set it down to where I want and leave it another 5.

1 being lowest and 6 being highest I use 2 and 3 most of the time.

Millions do. Whether or not you do, is neither here nor there.

Good stuff that.

Yes I’m trying to ascertain her claim to fame since I’ve never heard of her.

Thought it was Olivia Munn for a second.

Don’t get Barkeeper’s Friend in SA, but VIM does the job just as well.

Apparently Le Creuset Pots & Pans cleaner is the most amazing ****, but at almost R500 I haven’t been brave enough to find out.

And if you can't find Vim, there's Ultra scouring powder at PnP.

Vim was a rare commodity for a while but seems to be readily available again now.

Always assumed it was a local product but turns out it is Dutch.
