A storm in an A-Cup!

If the tests prove that she is indeed female (I hope they do) will she have recourse to courts in certain countries (e.g. Oz) to sue the **** out of them???

Well is she turns out to be a woman or a man (It really does look like option 2 on the photos hahahah!) the ANC, ANCYL and all the other "we fight for the people" organizations have jumped on the racism bandwagon and have made total fools of themselves by saying silly things like its because she is "african". The IAAF has full right to ensure that competition is kept fair, I will put money in the fact that Mr Bolt will also have do his thing in the cup.

So it appears testing was last done in 1996! And now it has been pulled out of the woodwork for Caster! F-ing Aussies.

Not true. That was when the last testing at IAAF discretion was done. The protocol has been changed to encompass more sensitivity and now in particular they only go through this process on suspicion through urine testing (not sure whether visual feedback from collectors or actual urine tseting throwing up anomalies or both) or based on a challenge by an athlete/federation etc.

They painted themselves into this corner if someone suddenly 'came out of nowhere'.

On the other hand, if IAAF or ASA tested her before just because they 'wanted to' that may have infringed her rights...i.e. they had 'no just cause', and she may have sued.

And yes, transexuals can compete... after a certain period of time and hormone therapy etc (or if done before puberty) ..so even you (lancelot) can compete with the woman...but you won't have the balls to do so:D

So physical attributes mean only one thing...they have to analyse everything to see whether she has any male advantages.

But the commenter in the timeonline article is right...do we then test every person to see whether they are more boy than girl...a lot will probably fail that.

And yes... the Kenyan reinstatement does seem a little bit suss almost like IAAF wanted the possibility of her not winning.

cheers

The simple truth is that the managers who run athletics have messed up, and the primary responsibility lies with the SA one.
Not only have the messed up the past by not sorting this out before, but also the present. Caster's angry sounding public comment about not giving a damn may be understandable on a personal level but should not have been allowed to reach the public.
It is the responsibility of the SA management team to make sure that whatever happens Caster is able to cope with it and not inflict further damage on herself or sports in general.

Not quite. Like OC said that was the last time there was mandatory testing. In 2006 an athlete was disqualified from the Asian games after failing a gender test. there is a link in one of the other Caster threads.

Further to that I can't understand what the big deal is if transexuals are allowed to compete in the Olympics! If she has a guava then she can compete.

It's a little more complicated than that. See here.

Edit: Interesting article here:

if she won gold in 2008 how come we never heard of it and where were the arguments about her gender then?

1. You never hear of junior athletics. In fact how often does anyone here watch any athletics other than the Worlds or Olympics?
2. Her times were good but not startling. It is the rapid improvement in her times which has raised people's eyebrows. (Well, that and her physique.) As soon as she ran her first genuinely fast time earlier this year, a gender test was requested, AFAIK.

Quite interesting, and rather contradictory to the rest of your post, that you say that. According to your paraphrasing of the link I provided if I did not have the balls, and was as much of a woman as you seem to be implying, then I would be even more entitled to compete with them. But you are right, I would be far to afraid to do so as that would mean wearing those tight cut off shirts and short shorts in your presence which I fear you may find me rather fetching in (balls, hairy legs and all) ;)

Sorry if I offended you...no implications that you are anything like a woman...

...what I meant that was that any real man after cutting off his balls (and hormone therapy??) and then a period of at least two year I believe can compete as a woman.

That's whay I meant "if you had the balls to do it...you wouldn't have it afterwards":D

Boo ****ing hoo. It's the rules. If the IAAF decide something is fishy (or not as the case may be ) then they are fully within their rights to test. Why should she be the exception? Because she's black? Because she's South African? Or because she was teased at school?

Give me a fricking break. Next thing you know you'll be allowing a crim to run the country ...oh...wait...

No-one is saying she shouldn't be tested, or that there isn't a need for gender testing. What we are saying is that the whole issue could've been handled better by ASA/IAAF - that a little more sensitivity could've been shown towards someone who is, after all, an eighteen year-old kid.

As for "it's in the rules", the IAAF's own rules state that the testing should be done in confidence, something which has patently not happened here.

But , but the testing hasn't actually happened yet has it? It's all about the interpretation of the rules don't you think? So when they do the test (in confidence of course) and then announce the results to the world is that not breaking that confidence. Please they played the race card now it's bigger than it should have been.

When people start teasing you behind your back because they can see your third nipple through your shirt (which you tried covering up to avoid embarrasment) don't you think you'd want to know? So you can conceal it better or decide that maybe getting it removed may be the way to go?

People were questioning her talent, they are saying she is too quick so they've deduced that she is either not a chick or is using performance enhancing drugs, both of which would give some one more masculine features. If they are so insistent that she's a chick, they should accept the gender testing and get part of the test done in front of the sporting media. That way when it's confirmed that she's a gal they can say a big eff you to the detractors.
