Cell C Black Box

Hi. Someone I know has one of these boxes which is quite useless if you're not subscribed.

Does anyone know if this can be cracked in some way to ne used as a normal android tv box or should it just go into the garbage?

The cell c salesman who did my fibre subscription gave me one of these with a 6 month subscription free. I mentioned we normally just use Netflix and would not want to pay... to which he responded that some people have reported cracking the black box and being able to turn it into a media player box and installing their own apps. He did mention that he has heard and has not personally seen it though.
