Cell C caps BlackBerry data services

What a cold day indeed! Poor BB subscribers join the crowds of angry internet users in South Africa.

Still pretty decent though, 2GB for R57. But this is just the first step in getting rid of BIS.

and smartphone get for times less for the same price. I guess Blackberry trying to damage control and keep people on older devices

WTF How on earth does MTN justify the insane data price when compared to CellC? Are there still people in South Africa using MTN data?

Thank goodness i never signed with cellc and stuck with vodacom, i thought it was a mistake but now i realize it was a good plan. Tell me would this affect contract users prior to this change or only new people signing up?

Still i guess 2gb for 57 rand isn't bad and most can easily get by on that.

The curtains are slowly drawing closed on RIM.

Well 2 for 57 rand, show me anyone who can get close to that. Vodacom is 9 rand for 1gb i think 149 for 2gb. Mtn fk knows they are always changing, one advert says 300mb for 100 rand, next one says 1 gb for 120 rand. Mtn should be finished by now.

The good thing is i can move away from BB now :D. Next contract time for something else.

I have a Cell C contract, had it for 6 months now. The internet started out good, unfortunately it does not work in many area's. Pitty though!

Well hope that they will increase their network capacity soon!

I doubt the people still using Blackberry - the lower LSM groups - will ever use that much. I mean how much data can you consume chatting on your phone while sitting behind a till at Spar or in your school desk as Lentegeur Sekondêr?

Here is the body of the SMS Cell C sent to subscribers regarding this change:

To help ensure that all customers have fair and equal use of the BlackBerry
service and to prevent improper or excessive usage, Cell C is updating its
BlackBerry fair usage policy. With effect from 19th August BIS and BES users
will receive 2GB DATA for BlackBerry usage over 30 days, while Social Plan
or Social & Email Plan users will receive 1GB DATA for BlackBerry usage over
30 days. If this DATA is used up, then any FREE data on your account will be
depleted. Thereafter you will be charged 15c per MB. Go to
http://m.cellc.co.za/fairusagepolicy for more details. T&Cs apply

2GB is very decent. see unlike other providers who tried to pull the 200MB shocker.. heck I doubt most people get to 500MB unless with newer BBs and even then..

Yeah very clever move,I doubt many people will be up in arms about this, should stop the abuse also.

That 200mb limit was ridiculous, hence it got such a bad response this is 10 times that.

The article says that customers with BB10 devices will not be affected.
Wtf does that mean.

Those people don't have bis and pay for data afaik.

So Cell C does not know what they are talking about themselves.

The Facebook picture is attached, however Cell C call centre and stores are saying something else.

This image shows that I can stream and download using the 2gig on BIS, however Cell C stores and the call centre says that if I download or stream, I need to have airtime or a separate data bundle. When I tried to stream, it refused the connection, and when speaking the 0841555555, they confirmed that once I attempt to stream or download, my phone moved of the blackberry.net APN to the internet.net APN, and the fair usage data only work on the blackberry.net APN.
