Cell C says won't charge porting fee

Vodacom charge you a mandatory R150 just to 'renew' your loyalty and contract,
Dunno about the other guys

It is negotiable. Most things in life are, but if you don't ask you will never get.

More negotiable now than before MNP no doubt :D

Phoned VodacomSP yesterday asking about porting my number and what I need to do from my side. Was told someone would call me back promptly, still waiting  , did get an sms out of the blue from them though informing me that I am overdue for an upgrade :D

Just checked and the R150 mandatory renewal fee (according to the consultant I spoke to) is not negotiable.

Prob not much info, but yes, there is a min fee required to port. The fee goes to Grintek *NOT* the operators (The porting fee is for Grintek to maintain the central database in other words). Thus it might be neogotiatable, but there would be a min fee required, or the operator looses... Maybe Cell-C offering to charge no porting fee is just a indication of how desperate they are to get clients... :)

You can port while still on contract, it's up to the SP to determine how much they will charge you to terminate your contract early.

As far as I know, any balance on pre-paid accounts, will NOT be ported with your number. If you have R200 worth of airtime on your pre-paid sim and you port, you'll have a zero balance (or so I'm told) on the new network (Tarrifs differ, let's face it).

All systems is go for porting... I'm waiting in great anticipation to see what (if any) load you bunch can throw at my servers at a certain cellular provider -grin-

But let me say this... It's stressfull... It's damm stressfull..... Time for lots of brandy and relaxation!!!

Free SMS

So, what happens to the free sms the networks provide on their sites? e.g. cellc.co.za 5 free sms a day

Do they now have to query "THE DB" before sending an sms in case it's on another network?

Or mobile CellC sms.
