Cell C sets new mobile data pricing standard

Easy way to check is get a prepaid sim load some airtime and then use your phone(3g...) and check the speeds you get.
then you can verify for your self , do a speed test....
btw do we all need those speeds I just need a fairly stable connection at a decent speed, I would rather them give me 3.6 at a much cheaper rate per gig than 21 or 7.2

how many articles do there need to be about this?

Im also in the Krugersdorp area, Chancliff and I would love to find out, I might take that chance at the end of the month and if my speed is more than 1.5 - I'll keep it - otherwise I'll use the return policy.

Hold the phone! The refund offer applies to the special offer (which includes modems). I am not sure whether it spplies to the SIM only deal.

Also, the new high-speed network is limited to PE at the moment, and no other geographical roll-out information has been released. so until you hear that Krugersdorp is included, don't try your test.

pay R2K upfront ? without any knowledge of how their service will be over the next 12 months ?

No one's forcing you to sign up. If you're willing to take that risk for far cheaper tariffs, then take it, otherwise continue to be extorted by Vodacom/MTN.

Quite simple :)

Anyone from PE who went out and bought one of these packages? I'd love to know how they perform.

Hi There

I went to a Cell C Store today. I saw the package in action speeds are good.Spoke to the one rep from there Head Office I ask about the roll out they said Bloem Is Next them Cape Town and Then East London. JHB is last Monday I am going in to get there Data Card For R999

The new topup rate hasn't bet released yet. My guess is they are waiting to see what the average usage will be. If most peeps use their allotment long before the end of the month, they won't be able to set the topup rate too low, as average usage will then likely jump to between 5-10 gigs causing the network to become sluggish.

But on the other hand if average usage is 500 megs they will be able to drop the topup price a lot lower.

So calm down and take a chill pill.

Nice cool and calm response - congrats jak3.

This is probably the best news in years for consumers of cellular data. Finally someone has taken the lead and decided to compete on price. Well done Cell C! Let's hope the rest follows suite. Personally I feel Vodacom and MTN have been ripping us off for years.

At least Cell C is trying to make some changes, Vodacom and MTN just keep raping us.

Cell C also seems to have spent a crap load of money on advertising, everywhere you look there is a Cell C add :s

Top up - Bottoming up at .................

and not to mention their ridiculous topup tariffs

R390 per GB, that is part of the new bundle, the prepaid topup is still R1500 per GB, its very f@cking steep.

Top up - Bottoming up at 25c per meg For Out of Bundle for ALL mobile Operators.

Per Gig in Bundle will be Competitive !

You could purchase that with a Credit card and repay over a 12 month term. The interest would be negligible.

Yes Truely I agree will work out less than R150 interest per Year - ESTIMATED @ R13 per month - I'm OK with that

ALL the HSDPA Towers will be on Fibre - DFA - NeoTel - Telkom - InfraCo

The EDGE Speeds are also improving so thats a big +

So there's a chance of them getting their High Speed network on track from day 1

Lets hope they try their utmost best to maintain quality and standards for at least 3 Years.
After that they can't Turn Back.
