Cell C Speed Test Results

speed seems to be a bit faster this morning (up from previous 1.5mbps download speed). i'm not sure which is my closest tower, but i'm at the bottom of cowie's hill in pinetown.

Put the sim into your phone and acitvate cell ID. Should tell your nearest tower is.

Much better to use MDMA. If your phone does not support 900Mhz UMTS then you will only pickup the 2G towers.

Port Elizabeth

So far looks good enough for me.

Nice results, as of 4 months ago I was your neighbour but am now in Thornton, Cape Town. Will post up my results tonight; got the 21 Mbps just yesterday and max. speed I recorded was around 7 Mb.

The nearest tower is only 250 metres away and in viewing distance from where I stay; the one that's on Viking Way as one drives away from Pinelands for those who know the area.

Has anyone tried the New York server? I'm getting bad results all around to that one test location.

What's your definition of "bad"? I have noticed that I get faster speeds to/from 'actual' servers within the US than the speedtest NY server though (e.g. if I upload to our server in the US I get 2 to 3Mbits, typically), so there may be a problem there, it might not be representative.

Dallas, Texas:

And for control, Joburg:

Disclaimer, I am sitting in a part of the house where I don't get great reception; I usually get much better speeds upstairs, but my home office is downstairs.

cellc has all their gateways sitting in jhb, sgsn and so on. so all locations in sa will appear as in jhb

Not really a speed test but interesting:

I got the Bad Company Patch 856 MB using Free Download Manager [10 sections] on Cell C HSPA+ in under 20 min.
