Cell C Speed Test Results

Waterval Boven - Shamrock Arms - EDGE roaming

EDGE roaming on Vodacom network.

When I connected it first up, the CellC dashboard picked up vodacom WCDMA, but dropped that almost immediately, then for a few seconds more, nothing, then it picked up EDGE roaming on Vodacom.

Interestingly, I could not connect with the CellC dashboard (Windows), but when I switched over to Ubuntu, it connected.

EDGE speeds all the way.

edge [roaming] est good for one thing only - IM connectivity and the odd web browsing here and there.

Not for youtube or heavy downloads, mind... it is too slow for that.

[edit] - if you absolutely have to, rather use ubuntu/linux as it won't have windowsupdates and other stuff running which will impede performance.

PE this morning:

For me anything above 2Mb/s with stable connection is reasonable :)

Fastest I've ever gotten with my E1820 (except for uploads...):

EDIT: Woop, woop! Even better!

Not that much concerned about local speeds, they always up there.
But international im getting what i need - a minimum of 2Mb/s :)

I get a latency test error.

Cell C is the worst of them all.

Also is Voda and MTN in selected locations.

That's wireless for you.

Have you tried relocating your speedstick to other locations & see if that makes a difference?

In my Middelburg test, I got EDGE speeds at one spot, until I moved to another spot. Huge difference.

I am getting impressed at CELL C UPLOAD speed daily seems they actually solved the slow upload speed but for how long not sure.

Base Station 11402 - South of Johannesburg (Not sure where the base station is situated)

The simple act of relocating the router gives this :

What router are you using with your Cell C speedstick ? I have a Dovado USB router and have been having some difficulty with it - I get excellent speeds when the stick is in my laptop, but when I put it into the wireless router - on the same table as my laptop, then I get slow speeds, regular disconnects etc

Are you using an extension cable? Depending on the power capabilities/stability of the USB ports, it may be that the router can't handle the extension but the pc can.

Huawei E1820 black stick only. No router or other equipment.

Not happy.

Had my cellc router on an USB extension cable previously, and it was working 100%

Tried it on the same USB cable again this morning, but got constant disconnects. Plugged router directly into netbook's left USB port. Works 100%.

got this :

Switched USB ports, plugged extension cable into the right USB port, and fired her up.

Got this (Lenovo Ideapad S10e) :

:D:D

I am very impressed :D

and it doesn't disconnect now, is stable.

Now if somebody can make a power injector for an USB extension cable...

Weltevreden Park, Roodepoort... In a TP-Link MR3420 which is positioned vertically. Signal strength is at 70%

Local - to Johannesburg server: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1155002378.png
International - to London server: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1155005950.png

This is done on a Huawei E1752, which has been configured to use 3G only (using ginngs's MDMA tool). The modem is plugged into a TP-Link MR3420 router. I think these results aren't too bad considering that the signal seems to be quite weak (+CSQ: 10,99) i.e. -93dBm.

Try repositioning your speedstick. Experiment with various diverse locations and orientation (horizontal, vertical, sloped, etc) until you get the best signal and best speed.
