Hi

Thank you for contacting Cell C.

Kindly advise if the device was purchased through Cell C as the Wi-Fi calling service is only available on Cell C Wi-Fi calling enabled devices which come preinstalled with the applicable Wi-Fi calling software installed.

Don't iPhones differ from Android in this regard? I believe iPhone applies carrier specific settings depending on sim inserted into it. Apple don't customise their firmware for specific operators like Android does.....which I wish Android would actually take heed from IOS. No matter where phone bought from...the OS should detect the sim and the carrier and download correct settings to enable VoLTE and VoWiFi for that carrier. PS I am not a Apple fan.

Basically this. No bloatware on iOS, all carrier settings

When I try set WiFi Calling using the phone settings, it complains:

But I have it activated in the App and via the Cell C website and despite the error message above, when I check the dashboard, WiFi calling does seem to be active:

What's going on?

From the horses mouth:

“For Motorola , WiFi Calling will not work as we do not range their devices, nor do we have a commercial agreement. I presume that hotspot functionality is also not working as we don’t have a commercial/technical agreement .

IPhone 15, conference calling , Mobile hotspots and WIFI calling not working , also due to commercial agreement. Our partners are trying to resolve.

We are working on VOLTE and 5G, with Oppo, Realme, Vivo , Huawei, Samsung and Honor .

Apple will be also supported once we go commercially live. I don’t have ETA on dates but will be done by Q4 this year”.

Seems like I will be porting to Vodacom who allegedly have WiFi calling working.

Old thread, but I only just saw it. I've been using CellC Wifi calling on my 1st gen iPhone SE for years, and now also use it on my 3rd gen SE. Maybe the iPhone 15 works differently.

Although, it is necessary to enable it via the CellC USSD menu:
- *147#
- 8 My Account
- 8 Info
- 1 Settings
- 2 WiFi Calling Settings
- 1 WiFi Calling Activation:

Great tip, but Cell C doesn’t support Wifi Calling for iPhone 15 at all. “Still in negotiations with Apple for the licence” and we are almost getting to the iPhone 16’s release.

Don’t know what exactly is going on but I would think it’s got something to do with someone needing to pay someone else and that someone not having the funds to so so as they are a sinking ship unfortunately.

MTN (and Cell C who squat on the MTN network) seem to have a problem with eSIM and Wi-Fi calling on Apple.

Doesn’t seem to be a problem with physical Sims.

Anyway, I got so frustrated I just ported to Vodacom and I’m having no problem now.

I also got myself a backup Moto Edge 40 Neo and Wi-Fi calling doesn’t work on that device either using eSIM….

Not to derail the thread, what Apple device and MTN prepaid or contract? I have an prepaid MTN esim active in the iPhone 15 and wifi calling is working 100%

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, prepaid, eSim. Tested MTN as Afrihost Mobile.

If MTN can provide wifi calling to their prepaid customers then you have to ask why they can't support it for their hosted clients, the MVNO's.

Also tested on Mototorola Edge 40 Neo using Afrimobile (not working)

Devices supporting eSim are still quite rare, and expensive, the cheapest being the Samsung A55 AFAIK, so given the MVNO demographic, if I can put it that way, I assume is not too important for Cell C or the MTN MVNO's.

Per an internal note from Cell C, it appears that they or MTN have to negotiate agreements with cell phone manufacturers to support functionality. It's quite incredible really, imagine if we were talking about physical SIM's!

Anyway, it's academic for me now and I suspect is of minor concern to the MVNO's and Cell C which is why resolution is not anticpated until earliest 4Q24.

Yeah no MTN MVNO support for VoLTE and VoWifi yet, it is in testing though, but been for many months now.

On MTN esim / physical sim it does work however, so too Vodacom and Telkom.

Cell C not on iPhone 15, but talking under correction VoWifi does work on anything prior to iPhone 15. No VoLTE support at all.

Rain only VoLTE, no VoWifi support.

That basically sums it all up - Android is also exactly the same barring no Cell C VoWifi issue on a specific mainstream model.
