Cell C will fight 4Gs ASA ruling

Stupid Cell C, they want to keep using this scheme because it is working. People hear about the real 4G network in America, add the new '4G iPHONE' in the mix and the keyword "4G" is suddenly worth the big bux. The majority of users will flock over if they hear anything related to 4G in SA because they are hugely misinformed when it comes to anything technology(no TV coverage of tech things at ALL!WHY!?)

For them to continue to battle this is pathetic and only shows that they want to scheme and cheat customers. How can one defend such actions in public? Does the public deserve to be lied to like this?
 
I doubt the average mobile broadband consumer cares two hoots whether it is 4G tech or HSPA+, they buy for the speed and data offering, and compare price with other providers. Who cares what tech is used, as long as it works, and is less expensive than others.

Who cares. As long as the price/mb is right and the speed good, 6 -7 mbps is more than what most average user would want.

Go CellC, I am with you. It's so funny how anytime anyone does anything good for the market a bunch of naysayers pop up and are always overly critical (look at the uncapped "fair use" debates). They have done us all a service, a GREAT service and avoided the collusion that MTN and vodacom are doing. MTN and Vodascum are the cheats here ripping us new arseholes with their charges, not to mention the who-ha about interconnect rates, and the gogga saga.

We should all be supporting positive development to broadband as a whole in SA, and right now it's CellC who are the ones doing just that! Go CellC!
 
I support CellC's awesome offering, but I have no time for their marketing BS. They are trying mislead people irrespective of what they claim. Their offering is good enough to stand on its on without this ****, so I'm not sure why they feel the need to push the 4G rubbish.
 
I support CELL C with their 4Gs --- I know what 4Gs stands for maybe they should have to teach theconsumer what exactly 4Gs means - I seriously support CELL C for the rest that think 4G is freaking cheap in this country think again you will have to sell your house if u going to actually use 4G service, pretty downloading 10 gigs per day... that is already R2000 over a period of 30 days R60 Thousand rand and if someone hacks into your wifi network you will be bankrupt....

We shouldn't attack CELLC seriously they coming into the market with their new broadband/mobile internet and are trying to supply their loyal cell c customers that have been waiting 10 years for the service to launch - finally it is here..

It's also interresting to note the history in this 4G / 4Gs saga.

Initially Cell-C and it's CEO kept on insisting their new network is 4G. After it was pointed out to him that it's not, he initially argued and eventually went quiet on the matter. Only to pop out later claiming they never said it was 4G but it's actually (and always was) 4Gs, a non-technical term.

I've got a problem with this. If you've said something and you are shown to be wrong, admit it and carry on.

But trying to spin your way out of it, and denying you ever said something (when it's public record) leaves a bad taste.

What are the next statements Cell-C is going to claim they never said? Best network performance?, best speed?, best service?, 34% coverage by year end?

If the CEO can openly deny having said something, how can we believe anything else he's said?

Maybe the Cell-C CEO, the real one (seems they have two comedians running the show now) can explain why their starter pack clearly states:
"offering up to 4G speeds"

One minute they say they never claimed 4G as a networking term (and outright lie) and the next they just carry on making 4G network claims on the back of their starter packs.

Would love to see how they explain that one to the ASA.

Yep. Misleading advertising is misleading advertising. And you can't put any amount of spin on that.
 
If cellc gets away with this, then its really opening the flood gates to other dubious advertising practices.

Imagine vdc advertising their new "wimax" network, thats right "Worldwide Interoperability for Mobile Access" *cough* Microwave *cough*

Yeah. Signing a 24 month contract to get your free modem then paying 5 times the price per gb and being able to go over your bundles and then get charged R2000/gb is WAAAAAY better.

I don't see their advertising as misleading because frankly "4G" means nothing in south africa. The iPhone "4G" doesn't do 100mbps does it? If it isn't something real then they can use it to advertise whatever the hell they like.

CellC calls it 4Gs, not 4G.

If I do not have R2k to blow but I can afford R250 per month then what else can I do but to go for the more friendly post paid option?
Its like saying you can buy a house for R1m upfront or you can pay it off over 20 years at a total cost of R2m. If you don't have that R1m in your pocket you have to take the monthly option.
