Do you think Cell C should be allowed to use the term 4Gs to market its HSPA+ service

I don't see their advertising as misleading because frankly "4G" means nothing in south africa. The iPhone "4G" doesn't do 100mbps does it? If it isn't something real then they can use it to advertise whatever the hell they like.

"iPhone 4G" ???

Its all in the name and how you look at it. At least their name is not misleading because we have Cell-A (Vodacom) and Cell-B (MTN). Who needs 4Gs (4th grade service) from a C rate provider? No thanks.

Yep. Misleading advertising is misleading advertising. And you can't put any amount of spin on that.

Sure but Vodacom 3G and Telkom ADSL 4mbps are not broadband either. Vodacom were told by the ASA that their 3G is not broadband.

For real broadband you need a minimum of 4mbps down and 1mbps up - Telkom ADSL can't deliver that.

RouXenator I am using their data and it is great WHY must I pay MTN VODACOM R389.00 for 2GIG were I can get 2 Get for R83.00 yes I had to pay upfron But it is still cheaper than ADSL Line Rental. You Crazy wishing them bad luck I hope they grow and introduce unlimited broadband in South Africa Like they Have in the UK at reasonal prices. You must work for MTN or Vodacom Wishing them bad luck because you might be out of a job it they lose to many customers to Cell C

If I do not have R2k to blow but I can afford R250 per month then what else can I do but to go for the more friendly post paid option?
Its like saying you can buy a house for R1m upfront or you can pay it off over 20 years at a total cost of R2m. If you don't have that R1m in your pocket you have to take the monthly option.

Well if you don't have 2k to blow you're really gonna be ****ed when you go out of your bundle aren't you?

Because you have to buy it in such a large volume and pay upfront . Sure per GB its cheaper - but as a package its a weak offering.

i say again... do your adidas training shoes make "impossible" into "nothing"?
when you buy a coke are you "opening happiness"?

You can answer the following questions with a yes for some. Yes, some people do get happy when they open a coke bottle. It's like those addicted to caffeine, they are in a *****ty mood until they have that first sip...
Regarding Adidas impossible is nothing, it is more so a metaphor, and it does work. You hear stories of people 'claiming' "Man I love my adidas shoes, I thought it was *impossible* to run everyday and lose weight, now I am x amount smaller."

In the advertising/marketing world...what Cell C is doing is not the same as Coke/Adidas.

Cell C's "4G"s network is NOT TRUE AT ALL because it doesn't meet and has never met any of the requirements that describe the term 4G. Hence they simply cannot use it.

If you let Cell C slide and get away with this, other companies will punish us consumers. Africa is already decades behind when it comes to moderating what the sellers can say about a product. If you want us to be lied to it will GET WORSE. It is better Cell C and the rest of the gang tell the truth now because it won't last forever either way. The laws are moving towards US/Europe type legislation where your company can get sued within seconds for such false claims(consumer protection act anyone?).

Believe me my African brothers and sisters, it is best such things are stopped even if Cell C is the good guy because of their resent price drop.

Most customers probably don't give a $hit about the marketing used. They just want cheap faster mobile broadband which cellc is offering

Who cares. As long as the price/mb is right and the speed good, 6 -7 mbps is more than what most average user would want.

Whether it's 4G or not, and I really don't care, they're stepping up and giving consumers a product which appears to be knocking the socks off all others, and that's all I care about.

I'm in Cell C's corner ;)

Cell C can change the ad campaign but it will not change the fact that they are selling their broadband packages competitively.

How many of you here that thinks Cell-C is gods gift to UMTS devices have actually went out and payed a couple of thousand for this brilliant product?

Thought so...

They should nail them with on hell of a fine. Its clearly intentionally misleading & thats just not on for advertising. If the tech is so damn fast, cheap & impressive then advertise it based on that not some misleading BS.

CellC is pulling nothing but fast ones lately. First the promise a tech that doesn't even exist yet, then they trademark the copyright symbol and now this.

it's called iphone 4 and not iphone 4g

Heading to Durbs to pick up a few bundles tomorrow - hope that they are not sold out.

Will report on Monday how well it works in Joburg, looking to cancel my Telkom ADSL.

put it on your credit card and pay the card off per month

Pity that you don't know what it means, troll - go back to your cave !

Twas not directed at you, but merely asking not to respond to rouxenator who has been trolling all the Cell C threads.
