I never mentioned anything about Vodacom or MTN, Cell C is heading towards the right idea of fair pricing(still decades off) and if they change the name to Cell C 3G or 3.5G they would still be offering the same products for you and me. I am signing up with Cell C end of the month, I like what they are doing when it comes to the new idea/pricing but that doesn't mean they can cheat and lure in customers just because they are portrayed as a hero *SO FAR.

In the case of Cell C’s new advertising campaign about its new “4GS” service, it seems especially disingenuous. In the age of acronyms that we all now live in, clarity and meaningful description of purpose are important attributes that we all would value.
I guess CellC's "lame pattern" stems from the fact that they didn't include a sleepy little farming town somewhere near Slaapstad in their "launch pattern"?
What is "pathetic" about the "contracts"? I've been using 2 month "prepay contracts" on VC ever since I saw through their PATHETIC 24 month data contracts. If you want to mouth off at a "pathetic contract" - go boy!!
In the words of one of an infamous mountain goat: "I wanted to puke" when I read VC's petty complaints. I can't wait for CellC to launch their 4GS or 6XYZ or 21WTF service in Nelspruit.
Incidentally - are you railing at your car manufacturer because the car's speedo goes to 250 and you can't get to 200 even going down a mountain pass?

I did - saved me a small fortune already! I could update my backup software, FTP files I wouldn't have done otherwise. And NO, I didn't "payed (sic) a couple of thousand" - I paid R999 for 24Gb over the next 12 months (have the modem). To buy it from VC would have cost me 134% more, a small difference of 1.3 "thousands"
Go look around your obscure village - there are people who provide basic literacy and numeracy classes...
How may political parties are "brought to account" for being "blatantly misleading"? I suggest you get on their case...

The funny thing is people actually think I am stupid enough to use mobile data and then they get all like "oooh are you sad cause you don't have it in your town?" cause for them this is the biggest thing since prepaid came out.
The concept of lower prices on mobile data is good - nice one Cell C. But how they are going about it is so weak that only hypetards will get excited about it.

I was only looking at it from my own (intellectually speaking) point of view.
The 4Gs would very likely be misleading to someone who didn't know sweet f*koll about technology (i.e. sadly, the vast majority of people in our country)
I love the idea that CellC is kicking a$$ with the price, and if the network can sustain even 2/3Mbps, then that would be fantastic for the price.
The 21Mbps claim is kinda fair cos that really is what the "HSPA+" technology supports, from what I've read (...even though it's almost impossible to sustain that in the real world) (citation needed)
But ya ... the 4Gs thing, if portrayed as it currently is, would almost definitely mislead many many people.
CellC, could, if they wanted, go and market it in an un-misleading way ... i'm sure they have clever marketing people who could spin it while not fooling anyone.
Perhaps that's the challenge I'd put to them then... "We see you love sticking it to VC and MTN, and we want you to win this fight against those ***(censored)*** but you've used some dodgy tactics this time. How about beating them to a pulp and being the 'nice guy' in the process?"
Integrity... now wouldn't that be fresh in the SA telecomms industry?!

I think that a lot of people think that you are stupid. And not knowing about it makes you also ignorant. On several occasions and several threads you have been proven wrong.
As to my CellC experience, I love it. I get 7 GB per month for the price of 1GB with VODASCUM.
Latency is great and my DL is 4Mbps and UL is 1.5Mbps.
In the last 5 days, my father bought a pack, 2 of my friends and 4 of my work colleagues.
And... all are reporting 4Gs.
Call it 4Gs, call it Tomato...call it whatever you want.....at the end of the day it's a far better offering than anything VC and MTN have on the table......So instead of fighting Cell C on this issue why not join them in bringing affordable internet access to SA.... like MWEB did ;-).... Also MTN and VC are worried about Cell C misleading, lying and cheating customers, when they themselves have been doing it all along with their ridiculous rates.

Dude, I can think of much harsher terms to describe myself. I know full well that I am hated by many and thats cool with me. Crowd pleasers and hypetards are not my scene.
But let me refrain from getting personal. In the second part of my post you will see that I commend Cell-C on taking a step in the right direction, but they really should have done it a little better. Buying data upfront for a year is very inflexible.

Yes, it is inflexible, but I am sure that its got a lot to do with their pricing model.
They probably borrowed a lot of money to install expensive infrastructure, and are now discounting bandwidth and making a special one year offer in order to get some cash back quickly. You will probably find that they are being squeezed by creditors and are paying a lot of interest, so they need to raise some cash quickly.
Cut them some slack, the pricing on the deal is very good
And no, I don't work for them and I even own Vodacom shares.
I think some people are still missing the point. Nobody (ok, maybe one or two people) is saying the Cell C offering is a bad deal. Compared to the other operators' offerings, it is a good deal in many respects.
BUT, you have to remember that the ASA is there to protect the consumer. Remember way back when Intel CPUs were not locked -- you could change the FSB multiplier to anything you liked. What happened is that unscrupulous dealers took, say, a Pentium 133 MHz, and sold it as a Pentium 166 MHz. You paid for a 166 MHz cpu, but you actually got an overclocked 133 MHz CPU. Now, tell me that you would not be angry if you bought a CPU like this. (If you wanted this, you would have bought the 133 MHz CPU and saved money doing the overclock yourself)
In effect, Cell C is pulling the same bait-and-switch deal on the user. They have misleading advertising, i.e., some people might think they are getting a 4G service, but they are really getting 3.75G (or whatever the correct designation is). Now some people are arguing that "but Cell C still offers a great deal, so stop complaining ...". Just because they are offering a good deal does not give them the right to openly practice false (or misleading) advertising. Try to keep the two arguments separate.
I, for one, am glad that the ASA is keeping things in check. As a consumer, you have the right to know exactly what you are buying.
