Vodacom in turn said that they are supporting this ruling by the ASA which is to the benefit of South African consumers.

This is OFF THE CELL C WEBSITE: ... Cell C CEO Lars P Reichelt says that the company will be a significant broadband player in the market, offering 4G technologies at very high speeds....

Then, his explanation to the ASA... In addition and contrary to operators overseas, eg. Telia Sonera, Telenor, Clearwire, Sprint, we are not claiming to have a 4G network.

Some facts Larsie: You DID very CLEARLY state that you are rolling out a 4G network , and furthermore Telia Sonera, Telenor, Clearwire and Sprint DO have LTE networks (commercial or trial with launch imminent)

Believing that a 4G -ish performance (which in fact it is not - not even close to) justifies being called 4G is like believing you can call your 3 inch pecker a 10 inch whopper just because it "satsifies" like one. Sorry for the crude example, but I think we should agree on this now....

Nobody asks a Chinese manufacturer to live up to Finnish standards when they make a "Mokia"
Did anyone ever sue those guys called "Panasonite" and asked them to deliver 1080p @ 200Hz with LED back-lighting?

For Great speed

Would the S in their branding not be as important as the rest? Now, if you want to con people into thinking you have a 4G network, then it makes sense to hide the S. :rolleyes:

We know what they are trying to do with the small 's' but we also know that this is simply a marketing PLOY to FALSELY lure users in. When a user looks at the 4Gs, he or she will usually connect a vision of the term "4G" Thus LYING to the user because the 4G has nothing to do with the product Cell C is offering. The point is the only reason they are doing this is to *LURE* un suspecting customers and it is working. There is no other reason why they would have '4G' and the little 's' next to it. Do you notice it also came around the same time iPHONE 4G was introduced to the mass market? If people want to be lied to willingly it is fine by me. I chose to see things for what they really are. They lie to us enough already.

This is the definition of a SCHEME. Comparing Mokia and Panasonite is irrelevant as those were/are a tiny figment of the market where as Cell C is gambling with millions upon millions of consumer money.
 
IMHO all this controversy is pure BS.

Unsophisticated users don't know what 2G, 3G or 4G means, and they don't care.

Sophisticated users don't care because they know exactly what it all means.

This is all a storm in a teacup - who cares, as long as they deliver a reasonable service for a good price.

Cell C are cheating their customers with HSDPA Data at the a cost of less than 1/4 of the competitors ?Yea...sounds like a REAL SCAM! I'm sure the public deserves the prices Vodacom and MTN are offering, thats what they deserve I'm sure.
 
Totally agree their suggested 21mbps can't even maintain a 4mbps to a European server, and with a latency of 456ms
