Cell C's WhatsApp and push e-mail problems explained

OC must be having a party at his house now

Cool. Great to know they tracked it down and managed to figure it out and fix properly.

i do have to say that i am glad that Cell C did admit a problem and gave a general date to expect the fix. i wish the other providers could be just as open.

Vodacom had a "similar" state problem in one of their enterprise Cisco devices a few years back. These can be very tricky problems to track down.

At last! Cell C having issues (issue)! Took bloody forever

Might explain why my android market sometimes just sit there....downloading nothing...
i then disable data...re-enable it and voila....

Get that fix in!!

Well they had to put another Network on the news section to try and make people forget about the Vodacom issues :D

Good on CellC for finding the problem and fixing it :)

Haven't really experienced this problem here on Android, but think it is because I'm using Juice Defender that automatically switches off my 3G connection when the lock screen comes up and then periodically re-establishes the connection to allow apps to check for messages/push notifications. Guess this would prevent the connection from becoming stale.

I havent been affected much, use adsl through the wifi at home, at all other places Juice Defender pings the android sync service every 5minutes to check from new messages/updates/etc.

Nobody else freaked out about this?

we found a problem on one of our devices in the network that performs deep packet inspection of traffic passing through the network

As long as it's just for billing, and not having the equipment in place to crack down on insurrection if/when it happens here in SA?

Deep Packet Inspection is not for billing, it is for firewalling and quality of service; i.e. drop malicious traffic, prioritize web pages and YouTube, etc.

You should be more concerned about RICA.

I'm sure all ISPs have deep packet inspection equipment so not surprised really. I can imagine this being the case for all shaped internet connections and where QOS is important.

Thank you Cell C,

for telling us what the problem is and that you are working on it. At least now we know what to expect and why.

Same reason it wasn't bothering me as much as the other people on the forum :)
