CellC and Month Ends

Yeah I so hope everybody dont go for the last minute rush and then complain for a week cause they could not finish the last 70Mb left on their cards, because of the other idiots trying to do the same.

Then again, a man can only dream.
 
I'm a prepaid user, and can only imagine my connection has been utter **** for the past few days cause of everyone trying to finish off their caps!

Fix it please! Tired of being throttled every month-end! Slow speeds and connection hanging =/= fun!

They cant fix it unless you want them to charge more for data. Its a waste of money to cater only for that one day as you will be over capacity for the rest of the month. Rather use that money to roll out to more area's so we have better coverage than one day's slow internet because some idiots dont know how to budget.
 
If it only happened for one day, I wouldn't mind. But, it starts about a week before the end of the month.

Having said that, I had a stable connection last night (first time all week), and recorded my fastest ever speedtest: +6Mbps!

I guess it pays to whine on these forums sometimes! Cheers, Cell C!
 
Getting good speeds still this morning. Maybe tonight won't be as bad as it's a long weekend and probably many of the students are away. More bandwidth for me :D

I used all my data this week, updates and stuff, and have a mere hundred-odd today. I will use it, believe me, but I won't be part of the afternoon rush hour. What does that expire date mean though?

If your prepaid data runs out and you dont top up with call or data money the card will no longer work after that date....

USSD says: Balance = R 0.00 Expiry date:01/01/2030.Free Data = 55.47 MB.

I've had NO internet for 10 days - so my cap was sitting at 3GB while I spent hundred and hundreds of rand on Vodacom :/

They fixed it slightly yesterday and I'm getting 1mbps now - but I'm still losing 40% of my cap due to them which is a little unfair.

EDIT : I'm in the process of downloading a 1.8GB file with my remaining cap. I plan to leave it and go sleep - but wondering if it switches over at exactly 00:00 and it starts taking off my May cap? If it gives me an extra 2 hours, I may be lucky where it all comes from my April cap

EDIT AGAIN : I forgot to take into account the throughput that simply stop for no reason for every 30 minutes - so it stopped shortly after I left the PC ... meaning I lost 2.5GB cap for April and I have to use 1.5GB cap for May getting this file *sigh*

I think this will be my last forray into wireless. I'm really losing patience with wireless providers who over-subscribe and screw their customers.

I don't know if HSPA was ever really meant to completely replace a wired connection for large data usage. I have no choice because I can't get ADSL at my house. CellC have saved me a huge amount of money but I would get ADSL if I could. A wired connection just seems to be superior in most situations with the only real benefit to wireless being mobility.
 
We didn't experience a slow-down last month as it was on a Saturday and it was a long weekend. But month-end is this Tuesday! Blow your caps before then!
 
I used up most of mine yesterday just to make sure, bought a game for my phone that needed 760 Mb's data, only have 200 MB left till Tuesday.

I am loving it.... actually played last night till 3 this morning. I have a Paypal account so I buy the games using the wap link and clicking on the 2 for one price. R21.00 for 2 games is great value for money.

You can create a Paypal account that just links to your credit card and charge you.

I haven't had a problem with monthends. I did notice that in the last couple of days I was disconnected at around 9:00pm and 9:50pm. Looks like network gets bogged down when lots of people connect at the same time. Just reconnected and was fine though :)
