Hi bullet71

Have you tried to take it to the store.
To see if they can put the native software back on it ?

Downloaded software update - now I can't connect at all

Hi

I downloaded the connection software update from the website for the MF668 modem, and now I cannot get the modem to pick up at all.

It connects occasionally - like 1 in 50 attempts

Same PC, modem, location etc.
Can connect on my laptop using the old software.

Is there a way to get download the old software (as the update updates the software on the stick as well)

The speed is has been terrible for ages - <1Mb - and often unable to browse basic websites (like Google!)
When I first got it, I was getting speeds of up to 4Mb at my current location

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Steven

Hmmm that's peculiar. I also had problems using a ZTE MF688 but I thought it was probably the tower. So I changed the band of the modem and now it's stuck on that band unfortunately because of a problem with the modem.

Same MF688 modem on CellC
I've had the updated dash since about November. Worked fine, just a random hiccup now and then.

The last month or so sucked though. The software displays "scanning", then changes to "no network". Connecting is impossible, the button is greyed out. Changing USB ports has no influence. Order of execution (open first, let autorun open, open on boot, insert device before/after boot) has no influence.

When I change the SIM with the CellC SIM I use in my phone (ControlChat + DataBundle), it connects fine with great throughput. Put in my data SIM again, and hey presto, it works like it used to (great speeds as well!). This is frustrating, 'cause my phone is kinda old and freaks out when I change the SIM. Not to mention forgetting the date and time.

Any ideas? Perhaps also downgrading? Maybe a driver issue?

Modems can be stuck to EDGE as per link or stuck to 2100MHz. However for ZTE modems don't touch frequency setting, at least for now.

Probably not a driver issue but perhaps a faulty SIM card. It does, however, sound more like a dirty or poor contact in the modem.

Removing and replacing SIM cards in the modem has probably cleaned things up.

Perhaps, but this happened with every boot.
I might have fixed this. The last time shut down my PC, I first cancelled the connection and removed the modem. At the next boot my problem seemed to have disappeared. It worked twice now.

Apparently the modem (and the software) goes weird when you shut down your PC; connection running and/or device still plugged in.

Now we know what happen and you found a solution. Do you leave PC plugged to the wall socket? If you do, try to unplug power cord after shutting down PC.

Some computers do not power off USB port after shutting down. Modem stays registered to the network (you can verify it - modem LED is on or blinking), but power is not sufficient (it is stand-by power) and modem hangs up. When you come back and switch on PC, it is not initialised properly.

Check you BIOS settings, it might be option to remove power from USB ports. It could be in power management wake-up from USB.

Got a MF668 with a 5GB package today and am testing modem on TP-Link TL-MR3420 - seems to work as well as E1820 - router picks up modem within 1m20s and modem stays connected (so far just over 7hrs)

The comment makes sense and has a good chance of being correct. The only problem is I didn't write it! Oh well, I suppose I should be thankful that whoever did post this didn't post something that would have embarrassed me.

Any ideas how my identity could have been hijacked?

Nah, not sure......:whistling:

If I've said something I'll stand by it and you're welcome to quote me anywhere you like. The idea of a quote is, however, to quote the exact words used. You are also welcome to make any comment you like about what I've said and to say anything you feel like but please do it under your own name and don't make it look like I said it.

No worries Mervyn, just pulling your chain a bit... ;)

What obviously happened, is that somebody probably tried to do a multi-quote and deleted the wrong code, resulting in your name being tied to another persons comment - nothing to be too concerned about :D
