Cellphone dilemma

I guess u havent played with the HTC M8...

Nope. I did look at the specs and some reviews, but I have also listened to some mates who battled with after sales service when they had issues and on that field, Samsung is steaks ahead.

Pimp it to me so I can't refuse the M8

After sales service is handled by the service provider.

Get the S5, you will be happy for years to come.

The 16MP ISO Cell camera will keep you very busy. :)

Yes I have. Went to Vodaworld. Played with some devices. And settled on the S5... But there is a story about that! VDC sent the wrong package. I am currently in a fight! Will tell you about it later when the issue is resolved.

Yeah... Me too. I selected the deal with a Gear, but they didn't include the Gear when they shipped it and said it was only for the first 100 customers, although the deal is still on their website. I didn't accept the package.

Me too, but tbh, I just want to see how it operates and how the rooting process works. I can't see myself using it extensively.

So, any update to this? Did Vodacom sort this out for you?

Well, they don't want to honour the deal on the website. They came back to me with a different deal which we are arguing about. I almost took the alternative deal until they said the additional minutes are to Vodacom only. Will give more detail once I am in front of a PC.

EDIT: Here is the full story...

This is the deal I ordered online on the 14th. It is not on the website anymore. It was on the website till 20th May.

I phoned them just to confirm right after I ordered it online and the lady told me that the I won't be getting the Gear since it is not on their systems any more. I said but it is on the website, so they should honour the deal. She insisted that I won't get it. I told them I don't accept their excuses and demand the deal under the CPA.

On 15 May, I phone the executive liaison offices and they put me through to a lady by the name of Mampho (spelling? and she really tried to help during the next week). She said she will cancel the order and make sure I get the deal as advertised. She agreed with me on all counts.

On 16 May, RAM couriers phoned me with my package. I arranged to pick it up from their depot. Got there and it was the phone only. I phoned Mampho and told her I can not accept this and will ask RAM to send the phone back. Mampho agreed, but she was surprised that the phone was sent although she arranged it like we discussed the previous day.

On 19 May I received a message on my phone that the upgrade is cancelled. I spoke to Mampho again and she said she is busy escalating the issue.

On 21 May I received a phonecall from the upgrade offices - can't remember the women's name. She said she has a better deal for me. The exact same handset and the Gear 2 for the same price on Smart M. I asked her how this was better since it is half the minutes and 200MB less data. We got into an argument and I told her I need to speak with someone who can make real decisions. Later a lady by the name of Sphiwe (spelling) phoned me and told me she will take the matter further. She offered me the S5 with Gear 2 for R739 on Smart M. Plus additional 500MB data and 100 promotional minutes. I accepted until she told me the minutes are to VDC only. This is not acceptable to me since the minutes only gets activated after the 120 contract minutes are depleted. If it ran concurrently, I would have accepted. More harsh words... CPA blah blah Honour blah blah Rights blah blah.

On 22 May Shpiwe phoned me again. She acknowledged that everything I said was fair and true and she is waiting for feedback from higher management. All in all we had a very relaxed chat about Vodacom and the complicated deals they have - I threw some suggestions her way which she was stunned at and very appreciative. She said the phonecall is recorded and that she will ask marketing to listen to it.

I will phone her later since I have had no feedback today.

Looks like it's time for the CPA, then.

Sure, they're probably being shunted around themselves.

Just getting jaded about service levels in general.

I can relate completely. What grinds my gears are the ones you get speak with first when the phone is answered. They have no authority and stick to the "No it is not possible and I am not budging from my position and you are wrong". That must stop - everywhere. Since I am speaking to more senior people now, I have hope that we will find an amicable solution.
