Hi
I have a friend that works for a rather larger retailer in the South Africa. We where having a conversation this morning about rebates that the cell operators payback to this retailer.
I was totally shocked with what he told me.
- 15% of the spend per month on prepaid is given back to the retailer if the cellphone is activated using a sim purchased at that retailer. The phone needs to be purchased from that retailer as well. This will contain every month as long as the number is still valid.
Sample:
Average Prepaid per month = R200
Total For retailer per year on just that number = R360
- 5% of the monthly contract spend is given back to the retailer if the contract was opened at that retailer.
Sample:
Average Spend On Contract per month = R700
Total For retailer per year on just that number = R420
Prior to this post going up, it was always known that consumers where getting ripped off.
If the cell operators can give this kind of money away, imagine what they are making for their own profits.
If the general public knew about this, would this discourage spending on your celluar and therefore lower profits for these money making companies?
Regards
