Charcoal after braaing

In the north we use Black Wattle for "atmosfeer" and Kameeldoring or Hardekool to braai the meat.
You guys in the North are lucky that harder woods grow there. Here "innie Kaap" the wood is soft, and doesn't make great coals like hardwood does. We can buy hard woods, but it's $$$$$$ The rooikrans is probably the best indigenous hard-ish wood we can get at a good price

Leave it burning and if it is still warm in the morning cook breakfast on it..... only downside is the beer I left overnight next to the braai tastes warm in the morning!
:wtf:

With a Weber I believe you can close it up so it dies of suffocation and then you can use it again next time.

Only a Scot would go to bed before finishing their beer.

I've always struggled with wood. How do you get a proper wood fire going?

I have not used wood since being a young laaitjie....but when my dad told me to get the braai going I would put some blitz down first, light it and then pack the wood in a # parttern over the blitz. Just make sure you use enough blitz.

It puts itself out.

I brought it to life, why would i kill it?

In the good ol' days my dad used to get what they called 'ghwarriehout' sent to him by train from his brother in the De Rust/Uniondale area. Best wood I've ever used...

I pour charcoal ash onto the ground, it seems to make the grass grow nicely

Thanks. I'll try that

I use wattle or gum to braai after chopping them up into smaller bits. The taste is just so much better this way.

/Leave embers overnight then wash in the morning.
