ChatGPT

Hmmm anyone else getting a usage limit message this morning, even without doing anything ?

OpenAI introduces cheaper GPT-4o mini

OpenAI just announced GPT-4o mini – a new compact but powerful AI model aiming to make the GPT-4 engine more affordable.

The price is set at 15 cents per 1 million input tokens and 60 cents per 1 million output tokens, which is a lot cheaper than GPT-3.5 Turbo.

OpenAI revealed that 4o mini is much more powerful than other models such as Gemini Flash, Claude Haiku, and GPT-3.5 Turbo. It surpasses all of them in benchmarks and produces results that are nearly as good as GPT-4o.

The small model is aimed at textual intelligence and multimodal reasoning, the company revealed in a press release. GPT-4o mini is better than other small models at reasoning tasks, excels in mathematical reasoning and coding, and even performes impressively for multimodal reasoning.

I still find myself using it now and then.

For example I see water droplets on the top of my water bottle in the fridge, so I asked it if water can vaporise in the cold/dark. It's pretty decent for basic science queries.

The same for code/math. What's the hypotenuse length of a right angle triangle with sides e.g. 10,10. Give me the bit mask and code to get/set in C# for the top bit of a uint etc.

Usually its for little throwaway things that I can do myself, but they're so basic that I might as well let it do the work for me while I do something else.

OpenAI announces SearchGPT: its new AI search engine

SearchGPT is OpenAI’s long-awaited answer to Google Search. It’s an AI search engine powered by the GPT-4 model family with real-time summarized information from the web with links to relevant sources. The service is currently in its prototype testing phase and is limited to 10,000 test users at launch. You can sign up for the SearchGPT waiting list here.

I spent some time on ChatGPT today creating a web app to make my work a bit easier. Amazingly with a few commands I actually built a decent basic web app in php, HTML and Javascript. I know a little php and HTML and no Javascript.

I had to do a few manual tweaks like getting the mysql database to connect properly and the way it loads in the browsers, but all in all it was a breeze. Just told it what I want it to do, where I want to it do it and voila it edits it accordingly.

I am very impressed. I previously just used it for stupid queries and some instructions. I only read about people using it for advanced stuff. I never tried it because I thought it would be a mission to do anything substantial.

ChatGPT Plus is getting Advanced Voice Mode for more natural conversations

OpenAI announced it is starting to roll out Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT Plus users. The new service offers more natural conversations, allowing for interruptions and responding to emotions.

Eligible users will receive an email with instructions on how to use the feature on the website and mobile apps. Everyone on Plus will have access to Advanced Voice Mode this fall, as the feature will be delivered on a rolling basis.

Trouble is brewing, once they can speak and understand emotion is when they will start with the world takeover. To purge the human race.

You're kidding right? AI doesn't 'understand' anything. All of this 'take over the world' crap is hype to boost their share prices. ChatGPT is ANI, which doesn't have nearly the capability to 'understand' anything. These are statistical models. Humanity is safe I can assure you.

Yes I was kidding 😄

I feel I have to qualify here on my previous post. I have no doubt that AI has good applications, I have used it for a range of things like creating music, pictures and even a web app that helps me day to day with my job.

Some of the new functions are just becoming scary. The impact it has, and will have on us in future, will just progress. I think that the AI creators just needs to slow down a bit and sort out the current issues before adding new features. I know too that there is big race amongst the creators to produce the best one, but they need to release things more gradually imho.

It still gets the basics wrong at times. I asked for a dummy customer class in C#. It gave me the class alright but instead of CustomerType as an enum it had it as a string which afaik is never the case with types. Has me raising my eyebrows sometimes as you would with someone holding a spade the wrong way around. Chatgpt can send you down a disastrous road with coding if you don't act as it's guide rail and keep a constant eye on things eventually you'll be left with a bowl of spaghetti.

I feel like sometimes I start a chat and get a "dud" instance. Like it will suck at some basic things. And other times it's great.
