Cheap Apple PC - what to recommend

This often while the people who said Linux know full well OSX is based on BSD but used a blanket term to describe a non-windows Linux-like system.
That makes no sense, since Linux is not a blanket term for anything other than operating systems based on Linux.

Some people find it interesting.
More than that they're different in some fundamental ways. There's also no reason not to correct what is incorrect information.

Agree, though I suspect he was eluding to the way in which stuff is corrected. There's a difference between correcting someone and being a smartass.

No I'm saying the exact opposite.

It IS a blanket term for Linux-like operating systems as opposed to Windows operating systems.

If we consider a term to describe something that is as non-Windows as possible then Linux is a perfect blanket term that includes BSD as they are more alike to each other than to a Windows.

So in the context of Windows vs OSX, the latter is more Linux-like than Windows like even though it's technically based on BSD.

It's not the great crime many people make it out to be to say that OSX is Linux-like in it's terminal functionally.

OK, so since Bill got the idea for Windows from Mac, is Windows therefore Unix based?
:D

Still no news from the folks with the PC. I have heard they are planning a family trip to Asia at the end of the year so clearly money is not a problem. Hopefully they do take my advise to go for Apple and I will never see a broken PC again

That being said, and I have to repeat this, I do believe Apple is evil and I will never use it - ever.

There's someone over at Carbonite trying to sell 4 2012 MBP's at R7k each... Appears legit(?) - seems they came with a business takeover or something. Quite a bargain if it's for real....

Maybe what you need is an open mind.

Try it, you might just like it.

Got an email back from them, says that it is way too expensive. Guess they are used to buying PCs for under R2k so personally I feel if you pay peanuts... :)

I'm sure the're are plenty knowitalls out there - and that goes for any topic. For myself, I thought it was Linux based until I checked it out on Wikipedia. I thought I'd share that bit of info for anyone else who's interested. If nothing else, it means you don't have to have anyone going crazy on your ass anymore :p

People get anal about a lot of things, the trick is to not let their issues become yours ;)

I learnt something about osx... Didn't know it was a branch of BSD.
