Looking to spend 6-7k on a lappie. Will be used for office use / watching movies etc. Nothing hectic.

Can source from Rectron, Sahara, Esquire.

I would also consider having it couriered to CPT from PCInt or the like.

Any suggestions? What brands shouldn't I touch etc?

If you have a nice lappie in that range mention it so I can add it to my list.

edit: was thinking something like this from PCINT - any feedback?

Thats a good notebook, although having looked at the Samsung and Gigabyte ranges I am not so sure I would buy an HP for private use anymore....

The big thing for me with any laptop is after-sales. If I cannot get or purchase an extended 3 year warranty I'll pass. There is good competition in the entry level notebook market so you can get good specs with similar prices across most of the brands. What you should be asking is what happens when it breaks: Does someone come to my office and fix it? Does someone come and pick it up and I am without a notebook for 2 weeks? etc.

Agreed. The problem is that not many people are happy to spend R1200 on a 333 warranty (or the equivalent thereof if the warranty is built into the price). I need more customers like you :D
