Cheaper DStv trumps more expensive bouquet

top tv is competing with compact with a similar price and similar offering, but is having their ass handed to them.
 
You can keep your HD channels. Good for you.

I just want to watch proper television.

I was once a TopTV subscriber a year back when they were at 200,000 subscribers (oh, they are still there).

I really love my sports so thats why I went back to DStv.

Here is a suggestion for you DStv - if you want even more customers (or to get more money from me), create a bouquet that specialises in sports since you are obviously well resourced in it. I am paying R249 right now for just football. Why don't you add just one or two other sports to the current Compact bouquet to create a Compact Sports bouquet and I will gladly pay you an extra R100/mth.

I refuse to pay R700/mth just to watch TV.

Soooo, people are starting to reject their shameless price gouging! :D

Now give them a few months to notice what utter crap the Compact Bundle is... and they will give it up altogether! ;)

I'd love to see the trend of people switching from DSTV premium to compact over the last 5 years. In the present economy many people are forced! Then again, my FIL will rather skip a bond payment and cut back on groceries than miss the sport on DSTV premium!

Believe me, there is nothing similar between TopTV's full bouquet and DStv's Compact. One is simply better than the other. Period.

I stayed with them for about a year and a half thinking things would improve. But no. i.e. they decided to bury their heads in the sand about sport.

If they just make a Sports pack or custom pack, nobody will want the R700/month pack. They will loose big money.
 
I wonder how much business they will loose with everyone downloading movies and series so easily these days?

Sure. the sports fans will always stay, I think that's where 90% of DSTV of their business comes from...

Thats so true, I don't have DSTV, but if they offered a compact size package where I could choose my channels for about R300 p/m I would take it.

Right now I'd rather spend more on my uncapped internet, shows don't repeat over and over again there! :D

Not surprised by the results and download shows has nothing to do with it.

As said above, should bring out a custom bouquet and then you will hear MC upgrading capacity due to not keeping with demand :D.
 
We have Top TV and I would much rather have it than DSTV Compact. The reason why compact is hammering Top TV is because of the soccer, nothing else. DSTV used their money to lock down the soccer just before Top TV entered the market. They now have 1.8 million customers to use to fund it in future. Without a huge investment, Top TV won't be able to compete which is a real pity. The only reason that DSTV Compact exists now is because of Top TV. Ultimately, I think that the internet will slowly erode their business.

IMHO DSTV Premium has already cooked it's goose. Looking at the figures from Sep 2011 where they said that 41% of the subscriber base (3.7 million) were compact and family, I get a number of premium subscribers as being 2.18 million. That figure has dropped to 1.75 million. PVR numbers have dropped from 571098 in Sept 2011 to 450194 this time around. Not looking good. The overall numbers seem to have dropped a bit as well but its difficult to get an exact figure there.

DSTV pricing is madness, one of my friends has DSTV premium and the only time they ever switch their TV on is when there is Rugby on, and once in a blue moon they will watch a movie.
They are wasting lots of money on dstv and is literally doing nothing with it.

Meanwhile, the people next door to them stopped their DSTV subscription cause they used to watch lots of movies but doesn't have the time anymore, they decided to get a 10meg line and uncapped and now download or streams everything.

Sooner or later everyone will cancel DSTV and use the internet to get REAL entertainment, and not the utter crap they have on DSTV.
 
Cable TV like DSTV is so old fashioned! I can get everything I want on internet without annoying adds, repeats and other irritations.
